Australia vs India Preview
The World Test Championship final between Australia and India promises to be a cracker. India recently beat Australia in a four-match series, but that was in India, probably the toughest place to tour in world cricket.

India have however improved drastically in away conditions over the last decade, so they won’t be out of their depth at The Oval. It does however give Australia a slight advantage so I’m backing the Aussies to take the championship.
- Australia’s Usman Khawaja has scored 81, 60 & 180 in the 1st innings of his last 3 Test matches.
- Australia have won 7 of their last 11 Test matches.
- India’s Virat Kohli scored 186 runs in his last Test match.
- India have won 6 of their last 9 Test matches.
Head to Head
India beat Australia 2-1 in their most recent four-match series. That was however played in India where conditions are vastly different from what we will find at The Oval.
Australia Form
Australia played their last Test in early to mid-March this year when they toured India. After losing the first two Tests convincingly, the Aussies won the third and drew the fourth.
The Australians are in good form in the longest format having won 11 of their last 19 games and losing only three. Their tour of India was did end in defeat but they came back strong after two horrid showings which should give them confidence.
The positive for Australia is that conditions at The Oval will be closer to home than the sub-continent. That will play in their favour, and going by the odds, that is exactly what the bookies think as well.
Australia Team News
Pat Cummins returns to the side as captain after leaving India earlier this year for personal reasons. David Warner retains his place despite poor Test form of late while allrounder, Cameron Green will have a lot of attention after his heroics in the IPL just a couple of weeks ago.
India Form
India are a very strong Test side but they know coming into this World Test Championship final, the odds are stacked against them. While they are in good form, their most recent Test victories have all been on the sub-continent.
Last year India lost the WTC final to New Zealand and prior to that suffered a series loss to South Africa away. Since that defeat India have won four of their last six, drawing one and losing one. All six matches have, however, taken place in Asia.
India Team News
Rohit Sharma leads a strong Indian side including the likes of Virat Kohli, Ravi Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill. Unfortunately Jasprit Bumrah remains injured, a massive blow to the Indian side.
Verdict
I am backing Australia to win the WTC final with Usman Khawaja to continue his superb Test batting form.
For India, Virat Kohli is backed to top score after smashing 186 runs in the last Test against Australia.
