Bangladesh produced a superb performance to pick up their third Test win on the trot as they beat Pakistan by 104 runs in the 1st Test. The Bangladesh top-order played superbly but the win was due in large measure to the excellent bowling by the home side.

After a draw and a loss in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh beat Ireland in their next two Tests, followed by a win in the 1st Test against Pakistan.

After losing two early wickets Bangladesh’s top-order laid the foundation for a first innings total of 413. Mominul Haque (91 off 200) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (101 off 130) added 170 for the third wicket, followed by a solid innings of 71 off 179 balls by Mushfiqur Rahim.

Looking for a second-innings declaration to go for the win, Haque (56 off 120) and Shanto (87 off 150) enjoyed a second century-stand in the match as they raced to 240/9 off 70.3 overs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz knocked over three of Pakistan’s top five as they secured a first-innings lead. Nahid Rana ran through the middle-order with figures of 5/40 to secure the win.

Pakistan lost to Bangladesh by 104 runs in the 1st Test to suffer their third defeat in their last four Tests.

Mohammad Abbas took 5/92 in Bangladesh’s first innings, with great support from Shaheen Shah Afridi (3/113 & 2/54). Hasan Ali (3/52) and Noman Ali (3/76) starred with the ball in the second innings.

Azan Awais top-scored with 103 in the first innings, with three other batters scoring half-centuries along with Imam-ul-Haq’s 45. Their top-order fell apart in the 2nd innings as they were rolled for 163, with Abdullah Fazal top-scoring with 66.

Bangladesh have named an unchanged side for the 2nd Test after their superb win in the 1st Test.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood told the media that all members of their 1st Test side needed to take responsibility for the humbling defeat at the hands of hosts Bangladesh.

"The boys and the whole team will have to take responsibility, but we should look at all that we can do to improve the Pakistan team. As a team, we will have to self-reflect, but Test cricket doesn't forgive you. Until you play the perfect game, until you take the game's situation into account, or make fewer mistakes, then in Test cricket, you're always on the other side of the result," said Masood in an interview with the press.
