Bangladesh vs West Indies Predictions - Mahmud to carve up West Indies batters

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

Bangladesh are tipped to win against West Indies in Mirpur, with their spin attack led by Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz expected to exploit the turning pitch. Litton Das, coming off scores of 53 and 102 against Afghanistan, and Hasan Mahmud, who has taken 20 wickets in his last 6 innings, are highlighted as likely match-winners. Despite West Indies' historical advantage in head-to-head meetings, Bangladesh's familiarity with home conditions and recent form provide them with the edge. The main selections are Bangladesh to win, Litton Das as best Bangladesh batter, and Hasan Mahmud to take over 3.5 wickets.

  • Bangladesh remain fourth in the 2025-27 World Test Championship standings and are looking for a vital home victory.
  • Star players Taskin Ahmed and Litton Das are both in line to play for Bangladesh.
  • The West Indies come into the Test without key players Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph and Keemo Paul.

Bangladesh vs West Indies Predictions

Bangladesh are backed to make a winning start in Mirpur where their combination of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz could exploit a surface that traditionally rewards patient batting and spin. The West Indies have enough seam and slow-bowling quality to cause problems but the hosts should have the edge in familiar conditions.

  • Bangladesh’s Litton Das scored 53 & 102 vs Afghanistan.
  • Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan scored 83, 31 & 46 in his last 4 knocks.
  • Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud has taken 20 wickets in his last 6 innings.
  • Bangladesh’s Ebadot Hossain took 4/56 & 3/50 in the Test vs Afghanistan.
  • West Indies’ Justin Greaves scored 73, 35 & 101 in his last 6 innings.
  • West Indies’ Roston Chase scored 70 in the first innings vs Pakistan.
  • West Indies’ Jomel Warrican took 6/112 in Pakistan's first innings in August.

Head-to-Head

West Indies lead their 22-Test rivalry against Bangladesh 15-5, along with two draws. They won their last Test series in Bangladesh 2-0 in 2021 and shared the 2024 series in the Caribbean 1-1, with Bangladesh winning the last Test. History favours the visitors, but the home team now possess greater familiarity with their preferred conditions.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh drew their October Test against Afghanistan despite declaring on 372/7 after making 346 in the first innings. Litton collected the Player of the Match award with scores of 53 and 102, while Tanzid and Shadman supplied the top order with useful runs.

Afghanistan staved off defeat by ending on 346/8 on the final day, a result which perhaps exposed Bangladesh's difficulty in finishing off Tests.

They enjoyed a brilliant win in the 1st Test of their tour to Australia only to lose the 2nd Test. Bangladesh have also beaten Pakistan 2-0 in the current World Test Championship cycle.

West Indies Form

Roston Chase's side arrive fresh from a 1-1 home Test series against Pakistan in July and August.

Pakistan won the 2nd Test by eight wickets with Justin Greaves (73) and and Roston Chase (70) the best of the West In-dies batters. Jomel Warrican returned first innings figures of 6/112 with his left-arm spin to keep his side in the game prior to their second innings collapse.

The West Indies also beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in their preceding home Test series. A Dhaka warm-up match ended in a draw after the BCB XI declared on 371/7 after which the West Indies replied with 336/6, underlining the importance of controlling long spells in the field.

Team News, Pitch and Conditions

Taskin is back after missing the Afghanistan Test. Litton has been named despite his recent hip problem. Nahid Rana remains sidelined. Coach Phil Simmons has rejected the idea that off-field turmoil should derail preparations following the departure of batting coach Mohammad Ashraful.

The West Indies are resting Shai Hope after his recent white ball heroics and they have omitted Alzarri Joseph as they are managing his bowling workload. Kevin Wickham is in the squad after scoring 393 runs at 78.60 in the 2026 West Indies Championship.

Bangladesh (possible XI): Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud.

West Indies (possible XI): John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Brandon King, Amir Jangoo, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase (c), Joshua Da Silva, Jomel Warrican, Joshua Bishop, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales.

Verdict

Bangladesh have the more convincing route to victory if the pitch begins taking turn. Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud are backed to be the match-winners for the hosts.
