Their first defeat came at home against Welsh Fire, where they were restricted to 135/7 before going down by seven wickets. They then produced a much stronger batting performance against Sunrisers Leeds, posting 182/5, but still fell short by five runs in a high-scoring contest.
Despite the results, there were positives in that second outing. Ben McKinney gave the innings early momentum with an aggressive 44 from 23 balls, while Tristan Stubbs provided a powerful late surge with an unbeaten 43 from just 20 deliveries. Those performances should give the Brave confidence that their batting unit is beginning to find rhythm.
The challenge now is to put together a more complete performance. Jamie Smith, McKinney, Marcus Stoinis, David Miller and Stubbs give the side plenty of batting depth, while Nikhil Chaudhary and Chris Jordan add balance lower down the order. Stoinis, in particular, is an important figure at No. 3, having made a lively 31 from 15 balls in the previous game.

The three-time defending champions began their title defence with a convincing seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Leeds at the Oval, but they were unable to follow that up in Cardiff as Welsh Fire claimed a 15-run victory.
That defeat came after Rachin Ravindra’s brilliant 98 powered the Welsh Fire to 167/5. MI London remained in the chase for long periods, but were eventually restricted to 152/6 as the Fire bowlers slowed the tempo and kept taking pace out of the innings.
James Vince was the standout performer for MI London, scoring a fluent 66 from 38 balls. He almost carried the chase deep enough to threaten the target before being dismissed by a superb caught-and-bowled from Ravindra. Vince also returns to a ground he knows well, having scored heavily at the Rose Bowl in the Blast, including 125 from 61 balls in a quarter-final and 59 in the semi-finals
MI London’s batting remains dangerous. Will Jacks and Vince provide an attacking opening pair, while Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford and captain Sam Curran add major power through the middle order. Curran and Pooran both struck fifties in the opening win, giving the champions several routes to a big total.
Their bowling attack also carries plenty of quality. Trent Boult offers left-arm threat with the new ball, while Richard Gleeson, Olly Stone and Tom Curran give the pace unit variety. Rashid Khan remains a major weapon through the middle stages, supported by Nathan Sowter’s spin.
