The final leg of the West Coast Swing has attracted an elite field of the world's premier golfers at the Genesis Invitational this weekend. Who will win the third PGA Tour Signature Event of the season?

Jon Rahm will not be back to defend his title after a two-stroke victory over Max Homa in 2023 as he has joined the LIV Golf League

Tournament host Tiger Woods will make his first official PGA Tour start since the 2023 Masters.

Past and present major winners who will tee off on Thursday include Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Lucas Glover, Gary Woodland, and Tiger Woods.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Max Homa

Max Homa returned to winning ways last November with victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge (DP World Tour) before finishing T13 at the Hero World Challenge, T14 at the Sentry, T66 at the Farmers Insurance Open and MC at the WM Phoenix Open last weekend.

Before that, Homa was in excellent form on the PGA Tour, placing T21 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T12 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T10 at the Open Championship, T6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T4 at the BMW Championship, T9 at the Tour Championship, T7 at the Fortinet Championship and victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge (DP World Tour),

The world's eighth-ranked player has had tremendous success at the Genesis Invitational in his last five starts, with results of T37 in 2019, T5 in 2020, victory in 2021, T10 in 2022 and 2nd in 2023.

Homa has enjoyed playing at the Riviera Country Club lately and will fancy his chances to secure his second title come Sunday.

Ludvig Aberg

Ludvig Aberg did not have the best beginning to his new season, finishing T47 at the Sentry and T30 at the Sony Open in Hawaii; however, he has returned to form in his last two tournaments, placing T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open and 2nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Before those performances, Aberg was in superb touch on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, with results of T14 at the Wyndham Championship, T4 at the D+D Real Czech Masters and victory at the Omega European Masters.

He was then T10 at the BMW PGA Championship, T2 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, T13 at the Shriners Children's Open, T10 at the World Wide Technology Championship, and victory at the RSM Classic.

The rising superstar Swede is debuting at the Genesis Invitational this weekend.

Aberg has rediscovered the touch he showed towards the end of last year and will have every chance to pocket the winner's cheque in California.

Sam Burns

Sam Burns had a decent start to 2024 when finishing T33 at the Sentry before producing three excellent results, placing T6 at the American Express, 10th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and T3 at the WM Phoenix Open last weekend.

Before that, Burns had been in solid form towards the end of last season, finishing T14 at the Wyndham Championship, T52 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T15 at the BMW Championship, T9 at the Tour Championship and 16th at the Hero World Challenge.

The 18th-ranked player in the world has made five appearances at this event, with results of MC in 2019, T23 in 2020, 3rd in 2021, MC in 2022 and MC in 2023.

Burns has been posting top results lately and has the form to come out on top at the Genesis Invitational this weekend.

Adam Scott

Adam Scott has been threatening to win again after an impressive start to his new season on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, placing 6th at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, T4 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, T7 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T20 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and T8 at the WM Phoenix Open last weekend.

Before those results, Scott had been showing signs he was returning to form, finishing T7 at the Wyndham Championship, MC at the Horizon Irish Open, T7 at the BMW PGA Championship, MC at the Japan Open Golf Championship, T41 at the ZOZO Championship and T5 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

The former Masters champion has compiled an outstanding record at the Genesis Invitational, with results of T14 in 2008, MC in 2010, T17 in 2012, T10 in 2013, T2 in 2016, T11 in 2017, T53 in 2018, T7 in 2019, victory in 2020, T38 in 2021, T4 in 2022 and 65th in 2023.

Scott has been ultra-consistent during the opening few months of the season and can win for the second time at the Riviera Country Club.

Verdict

Homa has a proven track record at this tournament, giving him the confidence to secure his second career victory at the Riviera Country Club.

Aberg has the game to go all the way and lift his second PGA Tour title in five starts.

Burns looks ready to return to the winner's circle and should enter calculations in California this weekend.

Scott has been playing well and has the form to upstage the others at the Genesis Invitational.
