Race 2 – Christmas Rose (3)

Christmas Rose has had just two starts, hitting a seventh place out of a field off 16 in May but ran a magnificent run in her second outing 20 days ago at Greyville. She came storming through from the back of the field to power through to the front of the pack, only to be nosed out by a neck at the finishing post.

She’s such a powerful runner I have to back her. Blenheim Palace is the likeliest next best challenger but I’m seeing a good one-length plus win for the 3-yr-old bay filly Christmas Rose.

Race 4 – Charlie Bucket (10)

Jockey: Rachel Venniker

Trainer: Patrick Kruyer

Charlie Bucket should have the edge on the powerful Denoarie in this 11-horse field, and I can see this going down to a photo finish. Deonarie has odds of 3.50 after his first two career runs saw him place third and then second, but Charlie Bucket is the winning ticket for me.

The 5-yr-old bay gelding has had 44 days of rest since runs of 4-2-2-2-3 in his last five outings, so I see Charlie Bucket as being hungry to unwrap a first career win.

Race 5 – Peeping Tom (6)

Trainer: Doug Campbell

Peeping Tom should run away with the Maiden Plate in a 10-horse field in which only Bourbon’s Beast (7.00), Augrabies Falls (8.00) and Fire Force (9.00) have taken a third place in their last six runs.

Peeping Tom has placed 2-2-3 in his last three runs and I like the legs of this 4-yr-old chestnut gelding. I can see him taking it by a length or two.

Race 7 – Tunguska (4)

Jockey: Craig Zackey

Trainer: Ricky Maingard

In a strong field with plenty of recent race winners Blizzardboy looks like a powerful challenger at 4.00 and has great legs. He has run 3-1-2-3 in his last four outings and is a huge threat to his competitors.

Tunguska is my horse in this race though, claiming two wins and a third place in his last four runs. The 5-yr-old chestnut gelding has been resting for 44 days and should have fire in his legs. His last run was a powerful win at Kenilworth where he showed his staying power after sitting back in third place for much of the race.
