  • England relied on Jacob Bethell for the win in the 2nd T20I.
  • India’s top-order needs one or two batters to kick on to a big score.
  • A humid day with some wind but little chance of rain should play into the batters’ hands, with India’s top order looking in great hitting form.

England vs India Predictions

India’s top order hit out hard against England in the 2nd T20I and were looking on track for a big score, only to be slowed down in the latter stages of their innings. England pulled off a strong win with an over to spare but relied heavily on the big hitting of Jacob Bethell.

  • England’s Jacob Bethell hit 5 sixes in his 46-ball 76* in the 2nd T20I.
  • England’s Jacob Bethell averages 51.00 against India in T20Is.
  • England’s Harry Brook has scored 56, 24, 58, 58, 21 & 39 in 7 knocks.
  • England’s Sam Curran took 3/33 in the 2nd T20I.
  • India’s Abhishek Sharma has scored 49, 59 & 43 in his last 4 matches.
  • India’s Ishan Kishan hit 6 boundaries in his 40-ball 49 in the 2nd T20I.
  • India’s Arshdeep Singh has taken 10 wickets in his last 4 matches.

Head-to-Head

India have won three and lost one of their last five T20Is against England, with one match rained off.

England Form

England got revenge from their semi-final defeat to India in their T20 World Cup semi-final in March by beating India by four wickets in the 2nd T20I. Their bowlers took some stick from the Indian top order but fought back to keep them to under 200. They lost both openers for ducks and were behind the asking rate before Jacob Bethell smashed them to victory with six balls to spare.

Will Jacks (1/22, econ 7.33) was England’s tightest bowler, but it was Tom Curran (3/33, econ 8.25) who knocked the stuffing out of the Indian onslaught by knocking over three of their top five batters.

Harry Brook hit an explosive 15-ball 39 with three sixes and Tom Banton slammed 39 off 32 balls, but it was Bethell’s 46-ball 76* (5 fours, 5 sixes) that clinched the win for England.

India Form

With the 1st T20I being rained off, India suffered their third loss in three completed matches when they went down to England by four wickets with an over to spare.

Abhishek Sharma (43 off 24), Ishan Kishan (49 off 40) and Shreyas Iyer (37 off 22) hit out powerfully in the 2nd T20I but failed to kick on and rack up big individual scores. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s international debut saw him hit two sixes in his 10-ball score of 14 and he looks like he could be a menace to England’s bowlers in the 3rd match.

Arshdeep Singh has figures of 3/45, 2/28, 2/35 and 3/40 in his last four matches and looks the best Indian bowler to back to get among the wickets. Harshit Rana has taken five wickets in three matches.

Team news

Both sides will be looking for more runs from their batters, but the humid conditions could play to their favour. They will need to hit with the wind which could play a factor at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

England (possible XI): Philip Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (c), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood.

India (possible XI): Sanju Samson/ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.
