Glasgow Warriors Form
The Glasgow Warriors maintained their perfect home winning record in this season's URC last weekend, beating Connacht 33-21 at home in their quarter-final clash after the score was 7-7
Franco Smith's side were in fine fettle at home during the regular season of the United Rugby Championship. They defeated the Sharks 35-19, the Dragons 49-0, the Bulls 21-12, Edinburgh 24-12, Zebre 47-10, Munster 31-22, Leinster 38-17, Benetton 31-10, and Cardiff 40-17.
The Glasgow Warriors have a proven track record at home in the URC, having won ten in a row, including twice against the Bulls, giving them the advantage needed to get the result and progress to the final.
Bulls Form
The Bulls produced an excellent first half of rugby in their URC quarter-final match against Munster last weekend, winning 45-14 at home after leading 31-14 at the break.
The Pretoria-based side achieved mixed results on the road in the United Rugby Championship this season. They lost 28-7 to Ulster, edged Connacht 28-27, lost 21-12 to the Glasgow Warriors, 21-12 to the Sharks, and 13-8 to the Stormers before beating Edinburgh 19-17, the Lions 52-17, the Dragons 47-7, and the Scarlets 23-21.
The Bulls have been performing well in the URC lately, winning seven in a row; however, they have not always been at their best away from home during their campaign, and had no answer in their two visits to Scotland this season.
Team News
Glasgow Warriors
Assistant coach Nigel Carolan has stated that the Glasgow Warriors must hold their nerve to overcome the Bulls in their URC semi-final clash: “We've just got to keep our feet on the ground. It's about not getting ahead of ourselves. I think it's very important that we don't play the occasion. It is foreign territory for us to have a home semi-final — when we won the URC (in 2024), we had to do it the hard way. That does keep you on edge.
“Our focus is purely on how to beat the Bulls and the game that we need to put on the field to beat them, rather than getting caught up in the occasion. At the back of your head, you're still thinking we've put ourselves in a really good position in the Champions Cup this year, but it came back to bite us. We've got to make sure that we cash in on this opportunity.”
Scotland centre Huw Jones is back in training and will likely face the Bulls.
Scott Cummings and Jamie Dobie could also feature in the semi-final; however, George Horne remains a doubtful starter after picking up a hand injury in the match against Connacht
Bulls
Head coach Johan Ackermann has acknowledged that the Bulls will have to perform at their best to beat Glasgow in their semi-final match this weekend: "They defend very well and don't make it easy for you. Our patience with the ball has to improve. They are an all-round, highly skilled attacking team. That's why we have to be better.
"Glasgow are not the number one side for nothing. They are one of the best attacking teams, one of the best set-piece teams and one of the best defensive teams."
Winger Sergeal Pietersen is out with a shoulder injury, while Wlico Louw is a doubtful starter, alongside Cheswill Jooste.
Verdict
The Glasgow Warriors have been in tremendous touch at home this season and are tipped to cover the -3.5 handicap in their URC semi-final match against the Bulls.
