France vs Australia Predictions - France to heap more misery on struggling Wallabies

The upcoming rugby match between France and Australia holds significant expectations. Despite France's mixed recent form, they are the reigning Six Nations champions and have shown successes in their recent head-to-head against Australia. France is tipped to cover a -16.5 point handicap against Australia, who have struggled in their past matches. The return of key players is set to strengthen both teams, but France's strategic depth gives them a favorable edge. The recommendation leans towards a French victory, potentially by a comfortable margin.

France vs Australia Predictions

France are not in great form but one should take out the results in New Zealand earlier this year. They are the Six Nations champions and will fancy a comfortable win over an Aussie side clearly struggling.

My best bet is for France to cover the -16.5 handicap.

  • France have won their last 2 matches against Australia.
  • France have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Australia have lost 6 of their last 7 matches.
  • Australia have lost 2 of their last 3 matches by more than 16.5 points.

Head to Head

Over the last seven matches between these two sides, France lead 4-3. The last two have both gone in favour of the French who have won 30-29 and 41-17 in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

France Form

France won the 2025 Six Nations earlier this year, winning four of their five matches. Their only defeat came against England away, a match they really should have won quite comfortably.

In July, as usual, France rested all their best players, choosing to send their second and third choice players to New Zealand. While they were competitive in two of the games, they lost the series 3-0.

The November tour also kicked off with a disappointment as they failed to beat a 14-man South African side. The match ended 32-17 in favour of the visitors. Last week France returned to winning ways against Fiji, securing an unconvincing 34-21 success.

France Injuries & Team News

France have a few changes, most notably the return to centre for Gael Fickou who was rested last weekend. Thibaud Flament and Emmanuel Meafou start in the second row while Gregory Alldritt continues the captaincy in the absence of Antoine Dupont.

Australia Form

Australia showed steady improvement under Joe Schmidt in 2024 and then 2025 started quite well. Many thought the B+I Lions would destroy them in July, but Australia went down fighting, losing the series 2-1. One decision could have swung that score around.

That momentum was maintained into the Rugby Championship as Australia caused a huge upset in round one, beating South Africa in Johannesburg for the first time since the 60s. While the Springboks pulled it back a week later with a win, the Aussies were still very competitive.

The Wallabies returned home where they faced Argentina twice, sharing the games 1-1. Against New Zealand, both home and away, Australia lost but one couldn’t fault them for competitiveness.

However, tired legs has caught up in November, or so it would seem. Australia have lost all three Quilter Nations Series games against England, Italy and last week to Ireland. They did beat Japan 19-15 prior to the England loss.

Australia Injuries & Team News

Joe Schmidt has made five changes to his side to face France. Carter Gordon and Dylan Pietsch start in the backline. Taniela Tupou returns to the side as does Billy Pollard, and Nick Frost.

Verdict

France are tipped to cover the -16.5 handicap against Australia. Louis Bielle-Biarrey has value in the try scoring markets.
