In the upcoming rugby clash, France and Italy face each other with a rich history of competitive matches. France is in excellent form, having dominated against top teams, and seeks to extend their win streak. Italy, though often regarded as underdogs, has shown significant improvement and resilience, as evidenced by their recent performances against formidable opponents like Ireland. Italy is expected to challenge France's supremacy, having famously held them to a draw in 2024. Expert predictions suggest a likely French win but anticipate a close contest owing to Italy’s rise in form.

France vs Italy Predictions

France are playing well at the moment and have a history of putting up big scores against Italy. However, this Italy side has plenty of quality and can generally stand firm against top opposition.

While France should win, I do feel Italy can comfortably get within the +27.5 handicap.

  • France have won their last 2 matches.
  • France beat Italy by 40+ points last season.
  • Italy drew against France in their last away encounter.

Head to Head

France have won 15 of their last 16 matches against Italy. Italy’s last win over France came in 2013.

In 2024, Italy took France to the brink, forcing a 13-13 draw. However, last season, in Italy, France thrashed them 73-24.

France Form

France have come flying out of the blocks in the Six Nations, cementing their tag as favourites. After winning the 2025 Six Nations, France are looking to defend their title.

In round one, France were utterly sublime, running in a 36-14 win against Ireland at home. It was a stellar first half performance, but the French took their foot off the gas in the second, which could have potentially saved Ireland embarrassment.

Last weekend, in round two, France had little trouble seeing off Wales 54-12 in Cardiff. It is hard to judge the French performance given how poor Wales currently are, but in the first half, France looked very, very good.

Italy Form

Italy continues to improve and upset far bigger sides. They are now a real threat who offer consistency rather than the one-off big performance.

In very wet conditions in Rome, Italy beat Scotland 18-15 in round one before traveling to Dublin in round two. Another very strong performance by Italy saw them get close against Ireland, losing 20-13.

It was a game that could easily have gone Italy’s way as they also had a try chalked off for a debatable forward pass.

France vs Italy Team News

Fabian Galthie has recalled both locks, Thibaud Flament and Emmanuel Meafou for this fixture, knowing what a physical threat Italy offers.

Danilo Fischetti has been named in the starting lineup for Italy in the front row.
