Reds vs Rebels Predictions

The Reds were excellent last weeked, while the Rebels start the campaign this weekend after a bye. These two often have the measure of each other and produce tight affairs, so my tip is for the Reds to win by 12 or less points. There is also value on Filipo Daugunu in the try scoring markets after an exceptional display last week.

Reds’ Filipo Daugunu scored 2 tries in his last Super Rugby AU match.
Reds’ Filipo Daugunu was the Reds leading try scorer (6) in the 2020 Super Rugby AU.
Reds beat the Rebels in 2 of their last 3 matches (1 draw).
Rebels have lost by less than 11 points or won in 9 of their last 10 matches against the Reds.

Head to Head

The Reds have tasted victory in four of their last six meetings with the Rebels.

Last season, the sides clashed on three occasions during Super Rugby AU. The Reds won two, while the other fixture ended 18-18.

The last meeting of the sides was in the 2020 Super Rugby AU play-off. The Reds won 25-13 at the Suncorp Stadium.

Reds Form

The losing finalists from the 2020 Super Rugby AU are again among the favourites to win the prize this campaign. They have made a number of astute signings in the season break.

Last week the Reds were superb, beating the Waratahs 41-7 at home. It was the perfect start for the Queensland-based outfit as they picked up all five points.

The Reds ran in five tries during the match with Filipo Daugunu scoring twice. He has continued his fine form which got him an international call-up last season and should be watched in the try scoring markets.

Reds Injuries & Team News

Rugby League import, Suliasi Vunivalu could make his debut for the Reds against the Rebels. If it does happen he will likely come off the bench.

Reds coach, Brad Thorn should have a full squad to pick from with no reported injuries after week one.

Rebels Form

The Rebels 2020 Super Rugby AU campaign went well by all accounts. On paper, they looked a side destined for a top two finish, but third is all they could manage.

It was an impressive campaign in the sense that Victoria was in lockdown for the entirety of the competition. This not only meant that the Rebels didn’t play any home matches, the players and staff were also away from their family for the entire tournament.

This year promises much more from the Rebels. A place in the final will be the goal for the Melbourne side but they will need to topple the Reds or Brumbies, while the Western Force are also much improved.

Rebels Injuries & Team News

The Rebels have made some decent signings with Lachlan Anderson, Joe Powell, Jeral Skelton and Jordan Uelese joining the ranks.

A few key departures have also taken place. Andrew Deegan, Tom English and Billy Meeks have left the Rebels.
