The highly anticipated match between Algeria and Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations promises excitement as Algeria's formidable defense meets Nigeria's powerful offensive capabilities. While Algeria remains unbeaten in their last 20 matches, Nigeria's dynamic striker Victor Osimhen could prove pivotal. Analysts predict a close match, with Nigeria potentially having the upper hand due to their recent form and goal-scoring prowess. Expected lineups reveal strategic formations as both teams aim to capitalize on their strengths. The prediction leans slightly in favor of Nigeria, considering their explosive attack led by Osimhen.

Algeria vs Nigeria Predictions

This contest could really go either way. Algeria are very strong and don't let many goals in while Nigeria have the best attack in the tournament. I am backing the Super Eagles to advance.

  • Algeria are undefeated in their last 20 matches.
  • Algeria have won 5 of their last 7 matches.
  • Nigeria have won 6 of their last 8 competitive matches.
  • Nigeria have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 10 matches.
  • Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen has scored 17 goals in his last 17 matches.

Head to Head

Nigeria lead 5-3 in their eight matches against Algeria, however, the North Africans have won the last three.

Algeria Form

Algeria are unbeaten in 20 matches and won all three group games at the Africa Cup of Nations, beginning with a 3-0 win against Sudan. Riyad Mahrez scored the opening two goals in a man of the match performance.

Mahrez scored again in a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso as they survived a late onslaught in Rabat.

Vladimir Petkovic overhauled his team against Equatorial Guinea but it made little difference. Zineddine Belaid, Fares Chaibi and Ibrahim Maza scored in the opening 32 minutes as Algeria cruised to a 3-1 victory.

Algeria Predicted Lineup & News

Algeria (4-2-3-1) Luca Zidane; Rafik Belghali, Aissa Mandi, Ramy Bensebaini, Rayan Ait-Nouri; Hicham Boudaoui, Ismael Bennacer; Riyad Mahrez, Ibrahim Maza, Fares Chaibi; Mohammed Amoura

Algeria lost Ismael Bennacer to injury against DR Congo which should see Himad Abdelli start in midfield. Anis Hadj Moussa is suspended.

Nigeria Form

Nigeria failed to keep a clean sheet in the group stage but managed to win all three matches. Alex Iwobi assisted Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman in a 2-1 win against Tanzania.

Lookman was the star of the show against Tunisia, assisting Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi before scoring himself to establish a 3-0 lead. Eric Chelle’s side conceded twice but held on for a 3-2 victory and seal a spot in the Round of 16.

The Super Eagles were far too good for Uganda who were reduced to 10 men before the hour mark. Samuel Chukwueze provided two goals for Raphael Onyedika following Paul Onuachu’s opener, securing a comfortable 3-1 win in Fez.

Nigeria turned on the style against Mozambique, completely outplaying their opponents in a 4-0 victory. They had 2.82-0.10 xG with their front three on fire, Lookman and Akor Adams finding the net alongside a brace to Osimhen.

Nigeria Predicted Lineup & News

Nigeria (4-3-1-2) Stanley Nwabali; Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Igoh Ogbu, Bruno Onyemaechi; Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman; Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams

Calvin Bassey is suspended here with Igoh Ogbu or Chidozie Awaziem to partner Semi Ajayi in central defence.

Verdict

Nigeria are the top scorers at the Africa Cup of Nations, netting 12 goals in four matches. Algeria deserve a lot of respect and Nigeria are combustible, but I think that Victor Osimhen will prove decisive for the Super Eagles.
