Congo need just three points from their final two matches to secure qualification whilst Senegal have already secured their Africa Cup of Nations spot.

These sides have met on four occasions with Senegal holding a 3-0 lead with one draw.

The two teams last met in November 2019 as Senegal beat Congo 2-0 at home.

Congo started their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-0 away defeat to Senegal before beating Guinea-Bissau 3-0 at home. Congo then drew 0-0 in Rwanda and lost 1-0 at home to Gambia in friendlies.

A 2-0 home win against Eswatini followed before a 0-0 draw away at the same opponents in their next two AFCON qualifiers.

Congo most recently played in the CHAN tournament where only locally-based players can feature. They lost in the quarter-finals away to Mali on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Congo Squad & Team News

Having had success in their talks with FIFA and the France Football Federation, Congo have seen five players arrive to join the squad from French clubs.

They are defender Fernand Mayembo, midfielders Durel Avounou and Nolan Mbemba and forwards Prince Viny Ibarra and Mevic Moussiti-Oko.

Defender Morgan Poaty and winger Dylan Saint-Louis have not managed to secure their release from their clubs and will miss out.

Senegal Form

Senegal have already qualified with two matches to spare having won all four of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers thus far. They began with a 2-0 home win against Congo before winning 4-1 in Eswatini.

They then lost 2-1 away to Morocco in a friendly before beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 at home. In their last match, they secured qualification thanks to a late Sadio Mane goal to win 1-0 in Guinea-Bissau.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy of Chelsea misses out due to dental surgery. The big news is a first callup for Leicester midfielder Nampalys Mendy after being born in France and playing for the French youth sides. He could make his debut from the start.

Bristol Rovers’ Striker Famara Diedhiou has joined the squad as Congo is not a red-listed country. He scored a hattrick in the qualifier against Eswatini.
