Egypt vs South Africa Predictions - Pharaohs and Bafana to Shake Hands on a Draw

The upcoming match between Egypt and South Africa is predicted to end in a draw with both teams scoring. Both sides started the tournament with wins; Egypt displayed fine form in their AFCON opener, and South Africa continues an impressive unbeaten streak under coach Hugo Broos. Historical encounters have favored South Africa slightly, with their last meeting resulting in a victory for them during the 2019 AFCON. On the team front, Egypt might field Mostafa Mohamed after a strong showing off the bench, while South Africa's Tshepang Moremi is anticipated to start after stellar performance against Angola.

Egypt vs South Africa Predictions

Both sides started with a win. I see this one ending in a draw with both teams scoring at least once.

Key Stats – Draw on the Cards

  • Egypt have seen BTTS Yes in 5 of their last 6 matches.
  • Egypt are winless in 6 matches vs South Africa.
  • South Africa are undefeated in 23 matches (excludes B squad internationals).
  • South Africa have drawn 2 of their last 4 competitive matches.

Head to Head – Bafana Bafana Hold Lead

These countries have met 10 times since 1996. South Africa hold a 5-3 lead with two draws.

The most recent meetings have been in CHAN fixtures with only domestically-based players. The nations met in the 2019 AFCON as South Africa won 1-0.

Pharaohs’ Fine Form - Egypt Dominated AFCON opener

Egypt are in very strong form. They qualified for the 2026 World Cup in the USA and won their AFCON opener.

In November, they lost 2-0 in a friendly to Uzbekistan and drew 1-1 with Cape Verde in another friendly. Prior to this tournament, they beat Nigeria 2-1 in a friendly clash.

The Pharaohs beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their opener. After falling behind, they put up 35 shots and eight big chances as Mo Salah scored an injury-time winner.

South Africa Soaring under Broos – Unbeaten in 23

South Africa are unbeaten in 23 matches under veteran Belgian coach Hugo Broos. This excludes regional tournaments or B-squad internationals.

In September’s World Cup qualifiers, Bafana Bafana beat Lesotho 3-0 and drew 1-1 at home vs Nigeria. After drawing 0-0 vs Zimbabwe, they beat Rwanda 3-0 to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana Bafana have since beaten Zambia 3-1 and Ghana’s B side 1-0 in two friendlies. They beat Angola 2-1 in their AFCON opener as Lyle Foster scored a 79th-minute winner.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Egypt (4-5-1): Elshenawy; Hany, Ibrahim, Abdelmaguid, Hamdi; Attia, Fathy; Salah, Marmoush, Trezeguet; Mostafa Mohamed.

The Egyptians are set to use Man City’s Omar Marmoush as a central attacker. Left back Mohamed Hamdi should shake off a knock to start this match.

Legendary coach Hossam Hassan brought on striker Mostafa Mohamed after 34 minutes vs Zimbabwe. He assisted the winner and could be rewarded with a start.

South Africa (4-5-1): Williams; Mudau, Ngezana, Mbokazi, Modiba; Sithole, Mokoena; Appollis, Mbule, Moremi; Foster.

Coach Hugo Broos is not expected to make many changes. Tshepang Moremi was outstanding from the bench against Angola down the left wing.

He is set to come into the starting XI in place of Mohau Nkota. No other alterations are expected.
