Amad Diallo secured the points for Ivory Coast in a 1-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations opener. It was a tough contest, but one which Ivory Coast always looked like winning.

Mozambique were stubborn at the back but offered little going forward, allowing the Elephants to dominate proceedings. There may be some disappointment that they didn’t win by more, but the three points were the most crucial in the opening fixture.

Cameroon will be desperate for a big performance at AFCON after failing to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup. they had to quality through the playoffs but lost 1-0 to DR Congo in the semi-final in mid-November this year.

The Indomitable Lions bounced back from that disappointment though, beating Gabon 1-0 in a very evenly contested Group opener.

Shots on goal and on target were almost identical while the possession was split 54-46% in Gabon’s favour. Still Etta Eyong’s sixth minute opener produced enough for the victory.
