Uganda vs Tanzania Predictions - Stalemate tipped in Africa Cup of Nations clash

Uganda and Tanzania are gearing up for a critical matchup in the AFCON tournament. Both teams are under pressure after losing their opening games, making this contest crucial. Uganda boasts a better head-to-head record, having won 21 out of 41 encounters. However, recent form shows weaknesses, with both teams struggling in previous matches. Given these factors, the prediction leans towards a draw in this tightly contested battle. Either side will need to step up significantly to secure a victory in Rabat.

Uganda vs Tanzania Predictions

Uganda and Tanzania will both be eager for a win on Saturday but I see it ending level.

  • Uganda have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Tanzania have lost 6 of their last 7 matches.

Head to Head

Uganda hold a comfortable lead over Tanzania after winning 21 of their 41 encounters. Tanzania have only managed 11 victories along with nine draws.

Uganda Form

Uganda had a decent World Cup qualifying campaign but fell short. They lost twice against Algeria who finished seven points clear at the top of Group G.

The Red Devils played two friendlies in November, a 2-1 win against Chad followed by a resounding 4-0 defeat to Morocco.

Paul Put’s side had 51% possession against Tunisia in their opening match at AFCON. They didn’t do enough with the ball, Denis Omedi’s added time goal only a consolation as they lost 3-1 in Rabat.
Put as disappointed with the way his side competed against Tunisia, saying: "We showed them too much respect. We know they are good at set pieces. This is a bad start. I think we were not aggressive enough.

"If you play AFCON, you need to win the duels... We will be playing under pressure. A draw will not be enough. You now need to win your next game to be in a position to finish second or third."

Uganda Predicted Line Up

Uganda (4-2-3-1) Denis Onyango; Toby Sibbick, Timothy Awany, Elio Capradossi, Aziz Kayondo; Baba Alhassan, Khalid Aucho; Allan Okello, Travis Mutyaba, Rogers Mato; Denis Omedi

Baba Alhassan and Denis Omedi performed well off the bench against Tunisia and are expected to start.

Tanzania Form

Tanzania were outclassed in the World Cup qualifiers, finishing third in Group E, 14 points behind Morocco. They scored only six goals in eight games.

Miguel Gamondi became the new manager in early November and has had one match in charge. It came in Cairo, a 4-3 defeat to Kuwait after leading 2-0 at half-time.

The Taifa Stars’ winless run at AFCON continued in the current edition, losing 2-1 against Nigeria. Charles M'Mombwa equalised shortly after half-time, but they couldn’t stop the Super Eagles and ended with 3-11 shots on target.

Captain Mbwana Samatta was disappointed with the way Tanzania performed after equalising, saying: "We put up a good show but failed to concentrate after making it 1-1 and immediately conceded a goal. Now we need to focus on our next match against Uganda."

Tanzania Predicted Line Up

Tanzania (4-2-3-1) Zuberi Foba; Shomari Kapombe, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Ibrahim Hamad, Mohamed Hussein; Alphonce Msanga, Novatus Miroshi; Simon Msuva, Charles Mombwa, Tarryn Allarakhia; Mbwana Ally Samatta

Yakoub Suleiman could be an option here but Zuberi Foba was man of the match against Nigeria and should keep his spot in goal.

Feisal Salum is another player who missed the Nigeria game and may be used off the bench.

Verdict

Uganda and Tanzania lost their opening games at AFCON which makes this a must win clash. I can’t split these African neighbours, a draw the likely result in Rabat.
