Zambia vs Malawi Predictions
Zambia are favourites going into this fixture, and with Malawi struggling for form, I can see no other winner. I’m backing a win to nil for Zambia.

- Zambia have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
- Zambia have won their last 2 matches against Malawi.
- Malawi have not won in their last 8 matches.
- Malawi have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches.
Head to Head
These two have met on five previous occasions with Malawi winning two and Zambia three. One of Zambia’s victories did however come in a penalty shootout.
In 2020 Zambia beat Malawi 1-0 at home in a friendly.
Zambia Form
Zambia are in quite good form having won three of their last four matches. Their one defeat was a friendly loss to Kuwait, while their three successes came in AFCON qualifiers.
The Zambians beat Lesotho both home and away before seeing of Ivory Coast 3-0 at home in their last match. It was an impressive performance by the hosts and one that should give them confidence that they can go all the way in the COSAFA Cup.
Zambia Injuries & Team News
Zambia, like many of the bigger African sides, tend to rest the majority of first choice players for this competition. This is about blooding younger players, but the Zambian squad is still more than strong enough to compete.
Malawi Form
Malawi’s form has been poor this year, in fact, they have not won a match since they defeated Mauritius in the 2022 COSAFA Cup.
Since last year’s COSAFA Cup, Malawi have played eight matches. They have actually only lost twice (both to Egypt), but the six draws have not been good enough.
Their last fixture ended in a 0-0 stalemate in Ethiopia last month. It was another uninspiring performance from a side that usually has plenty to offer.
Malawi Injuries & Team News
Malawi have also rested some big names for the tournament. Their squad looks thin on quality but not far off what others might have in this tournament.
Verdict
Zambia are backed to win to nil against a weak Malawi side.
