English Championship Predictions - Matchday 37

Leicester vs Bristol City

Leicester are battling for their life, sitting one point below the drop zone but battling to pick up points. The Foxes have drawn three and lost two of their last five games and are not looking strong. Bristol are having troubles of their own, with three losses and a draw in their last five games.

Leicester are without a win in 11 games, losing seven times and scoring just 12 times. Bristol have six defeats in their last 10 games, going goalless on five occasions. Leicester’s last four home games have ended in defeat, while Bristol have two wins and four defeats in their last seven games, scoring just six goals.

Both defences are shaky, so if they throw everything at each other we could be in for a string of goals, but I’m sticking to a conservative low-scoring match, with Bristol City to snag the win.

Portsmouth vs Swansea

Pompey have four defeats and a draw in their last seven matches, with just eight goals. Swansea have four wins in seven, along with a draw, but their form on the road is shocking, losing eight and winning just two of their last 10 matches away from home. They’ve netted just 8 times in those 10 games.

Portsmouth have been beaten 1-0 in both of their last two games at home, but have won four and lost four of their last 10 at home, with 14 goals to show for their troubles. Swansea have also lost their last two games to nil, although they have conceded five goals in those two defeats. With Swansea’s defence being leakier, I’m backing Portsmouth to score the opening goal (which could possibly be the winner as well).

Sheffield Wednesday vs Watford

Wednesday have won just once in the Championship this season, shipping 73 goals to 22 as they lost 27 of their 36 games. They’ve gone goalless in six of their last 10 games, so against 9th-placed Watford, who are pushing for a play-off spot, they should be in for a beating.

Watford went through an 8-match winless streak (D4, L4) before winning two of their last three games. They’ve scored just 16 goals in their last 15 games, with five goalless games. Wednesday have failed to score in six of their last 10 home games, losing their last six on the bounce with just two goals to their credit.

Watford have struggled on the road in their last six matches (W1, D3, L2) but they should be too strong for wayward Wednesday. With the hosts scoring in both of their last two games I’m backing a Watford win with both teams to score.

Wrexham vs Hull City

This is a tasty clash, with both teams just inside the playoff zone and Wrexham three point adrift of Hull, but with a game in hand. This could be Wrexham’s boost to securing a playoff spot as the season hits its last 10 games, so I can’t see either side leaving anything on the field of play.

Wrexham have won their last three games on the bounce, while Hull have soaked up two losses in a row coming into this match. Hull have lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions, while Wrexham have won six and drawn two of their last 10 matches, scoring 19 goals.

Wrexham are strong at home, winning six and drawing one of their last 10 games. On the road Hull won seven and drew one in an eight-game streak before losing their last away game 1-0 at 4th-placed Ipswich. The momentum seems to be with Hull, but this should be a real tough scrap that will probably end in a score-draw.

Verdict

Bristol City to scrape home against Leicester, Portsmouth to score first against Swansea, Wednesday to go down to Watford and Wrexham to lose at home to Hull.
