English Premier League Predictions

Arsenal vs Sunderland

Sunderland’s form almost matches that of Arsenal, with Sunderland suffering one extra defeat compared to an extra win for the Gunners. The home side are undefeated in five matches against Sunderland, with three wins and two draws, including a 2-2 draw at Sunderland in November.

Arsenal have had a tremendous season, winning 16 of their 24 League matches, but the visitors are sure to put up a good fight, as Sunderland are in the top three teams in the League in terms of goal attempts, with 332 shots on goal in 23 matches, at an average of 14.4 chances per match. Sunderland are also in the top three for least goals scored and haven’t won any of their last seven away league matches.

Bournemouth vs Aston Villa

This should be a powerful clash between 12th-placed Bournemouth and 3rd-placed Aston Villa. The home side have won three and drawn one of their last four League, while Villa have lost two of their last three matches matches, but have been in great form through the season.

Villa have won three and drawn two of their last five matches against Bournemouth, although they did carve Bournemouth up 4-0 at home in November. Villa have netted in four of their last five League games on the road against Bournemouth, who in turn have scored in their last nine league matches thiis season. Bournemouth have won their last two at home and Villa have won three in a row on the road, so this has hints of a score-draw.

Burnley vs West Ham

This is set for a bruising, bottom-of-the-table battle between 18th-placed West Ham and Burnley in 19th spot. A West Ham win will give them a great step up to hauling in the two teams six points above them. Burnley still have time to save themselves but desperately need to start pulling in the wins. Both sides are tight on goals, averaging just one per game this season.

West Ham haven’t lost in five matches against Burnley, winning twice. Burnley have lost nine and drawn four of their last 13 League games. West Ham’s last three games were strong performances, beating Spurs 2-1 away, Sunderland 3-1 at home before losing 3-2 away to Chelsea after leading 2-0 at the break. I see little value in backing Burnley in this match.

Wolves vs Chelsea

Wolves are nearing the point where they might need to win every match to have any hopes of dodging relegation after losing 18 of their 24 League matches. They have also scored just 15 goals in the season, while Chelsea have netted in 22 of their last 23 League matches.

Chelsea had won five on the trot before going down 1-0 away to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final, scoring 12 goals in those five wins. After beating West Ham 3-0 at home, Wolves drew 1-1 with Everton before beating Shrewsbury 6-1 in the FA Cup. They then went goalless in their next three League matches (DLL).

Verdict

Sunderland to score but still go down to Arsenal, while Villa to bank a point away to Bournemouth.

Burnley to take a beating from West Ham, while Chelsea to score big away to Wolves.
