This should be a battle of Fluminense's resolve against Inter Milan's quality. Fluminense have struggled in terms of creating much and were fortunate to draw agianst Sundowns in their last outing. I am backing the Italian giants to progress.

Inter Milan went through the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup unbeaten, winning two and drawing one game. They had one of the simpler groups though with River Plate, Monterrey and Urawa.

Inter did not start at their fluent best, held to a 1-1 draw by Mexican side, Monterrey. That was followed by a 2-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds, again not at their best.

In their final fixture, the Italian side put in their strongest performance to date, defeating River Plate 2-0. It took 72 minutes to break the deadlock with Francesco Esposito scoring before Alessandro Bastoni sealed the deal in stoppage time.

Fluminense Form 


Fluminense have been solid at the back during the Club World Cup, drawing two of their three games, winning the other. They finished second in Group F.

In their opener, the Brazilian side did a supberb job holding Dortmunt to a goalless draw. That was before they thrashed Ulsan 4-2 in their second game.

Against Sundowns in their final game, it was a winner take all situation with a draw enough to send Fluminense through on goal difference. Despite only having 32% possession, they held the South Africans out for another goalless draw.

Verdict

Fluminense's defensive approach has worked to date, but Inter Milan have the quality to break them down. I am backing Inter to win without conceding.
