Sundowns are imperious in defence and a winning machine. Chiefs have had a good transfer window but are poor travellers and lack potency in attack. I am tipping Sundowns to win and progress to the semi-finals.

Sundowns cruised to the Premier Soccer League title last season with just one defeat in 30 matches. They were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 Cup.

After being knocked out of the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage, Sundowns sealed the league title with a 3-1 win against SuperSport United. A 2-0 win at Bloemfontein Celtic followed before finishing with a 3-0 thrashing of Cape Town City.

Sundowns have mostly played their preseason friendlies behind closed door including a 0-0 draw with Baroka and a 1-0 win against Maritzburg United.

Sundowns have had a busy transfer window as usual but arguably only one signing improves their starting XI. Divine Lunga will start at left back and is a superb addition from Golden Arrows.

There remains doubt over the futures of two foreigners in defender Ricardo Nascimento and forward Gaston Sirino. Newly signed striker Pavol Safranko could partner star man Peter Shalulile in attack.

Chiefs finished eighth in the league last season after a poor campaign that saw coach Gavin Hunt fired in May. They lost the CAF Champions League final in mid-July.

A 1-0 win at TS Galaxy on the final day secured qualification for the MTN8 Cup. They then beat Wydad Casablanca over two legs in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

Chiefs lost the final 3-0 to Al Ahly after playing the second half with ten men. Their last match saw a win on penalties after a 0-0 draw against Orlando Pirates in a preseason tournament.
