Kaizer Chiefs were defeated 2-1 by Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership on Saturday. Despite the loss, Sibongiseni Mthethwa delivered a standout performance for Chiefs, winning nine of his ten duels and earning Man of the Match honours. Chiefs showed promise in the first half, with strong displays from Vilakazi and Mmodi, but defensive frailties, including a red card for Inacio Miguel and struggles against Pirates' pace, undermined their efforts. Substitutes failed to make a significant impact, and Chiefs could not recover after falling behind.

Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership on Saturday. Below are the player ratings for the Amakhosi starting XI and subs.

STARTING XI:

Brandon Petersen: 6

The captain only had one save to make. His buildup play was steady and he can't be blamed for either of the goals conceded.

Reeve Frosler: 7

The right back got booked early and had to defend with concentration. He created two chances for his side. Once he went off, Tshepang Moremi ran riot.

Inacio Miguel: 4

The centre back was consistently caught out for pace, including for the second goal. He was sent off towards the end for a very ill-disciplined challenge.

Thabo Moloisane: 5

He moved to left centre back and was to blame for a couple of first half chances. He looked too slow to deal with Bucs' pace for most of the match.

Paseko Mako: 7

A very strong first half saw him lock down the Chiefs left flank to good effect. He was less effective after the break once Pirates had a right-footer at right back to aid the attack.

Sibongiseni Mthethwa: 8 - Man of the Match

He won nine of his 10 duels and dominated Pirates in the engine room for the first hour. He drove forward, snapped into pressing actions and passed the ball well.

Lebohang Maboe: 7

He did well, broke lines at times and supported Mthethwa. He still looks a bit short of match fitness after his ankle injury.

Mfundo Vilakazi: 8

Although he faded, it was a very bright first half. He caused Ndaba a lot of problems with direct dribbling and rifled off a couple of powerful shots.

Mduduzi Shabalala: 7

This was a strong running display. He counter-pressed well and linked effectively with Duba. Shabalala had one of his more effective performances in a big game.

Pule Mmodi: 7

The winger scored Chiefs' equaliser and had a strong first half. He caused Deon Hotto problems down that side in the opening period. However, his influence waned once Ghampani Lungu entered the action.

Wandile Duba: 7

The striker was dangerous with his back to goal, and when running into space. Pirates had a tough afternoon dealing with him. He missed a golden opportunity in the first half.

SUBSTITUTES:

Zitha Kwinika: 5

The veteran struggled at right back. He offered little going forward or in terms of penetrative passing.

Ethan Chislett: 5

The Durban-born midfielder came on in the 82nd minute but had little impact.

Faiz Abrahams: 5

After the dangerous outing from Vilakazi, Abrahams did not continue that threat. He was ineffective down the right wing.

Flavio Da Silva: 6

The big striker had too little time to impact the match. His sudden decline in minutes is baffling.
