Mamelodi Sundowns 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs Player Ratings - Matthews Shines as Many Struggle
Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Kaizer Chiefs, in a game marred by individual errors and a key red card to Jayden Adams. Despite an energetic performance from Man of the Match Tashreeq Matthews and a goal from Brayan Leon, the Sundowns failed to dominate, opening the title race for Orlando Pirates. Substitute Thapelo Morena impressed with an assist, but ill-discipline and tactical errors proved costly for the hosts.

Mamelodi Sundowns drew 1-1 at home vs Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday. Below are the player ratings for the Sundowns starting XI and subs. The Brazilians remained dropped point to open the door for Orlando Pirates in the title race.
STARTING XI:
Ronwen Williams: 6
The goalkeeper barely had a save to make. However, it was his wayward pass which led to Chiefs' goal.
Khuliso Mudau: 7
The right back was strong defensively and did not allow much to come down his side. He struggled to impact the game going forward, though.
Keanu Cupido: 6
The centre back went off with a broken bone after a high challenge on him. He was performing steadily up to that point.
Khulumani Ndamane: 6
The left-footed centre back was very aggressive. He won several duels but he also let his emotions get the better of him,
Aubrey Modiba: 5
The left back struggled to be an attacking threat like usual. He was another player who lost his cool in the second half.
Marcelo Allende: 6
The midfielder was too safe with his passing. He dropped deep to receive the ball, but it was not hurting Chiefs. Coach Miguel Cardoso took him off at half-time.
Jayden Adams: 5
After a very poor challenge and a dive, he was red-carded for two bookings. He had his moments before that, breaking lines effectively.
Teboho Mokoena: 5
The midfielder was not at his best. Playing on the left of the diamond did not appear to suit him.
Themba Zwane: 5
The veteran playmaker was taken off at half-time as he failed to influence the game. It was perhaps a mistake to start with him.
Tashreeq Matthews: 7 - Man of the Match
The winger made some lovely runs in the first half and caused Chiefs all sorts of problems. He was the one bright light in a poor display.
Brayan Leon: 6
The striker scored a goal from a typically perfect run to meet a cross. He was very quiet otherwise and looked like a player who is short of match fitness.
SUBSTITUTES:
Grant Kekana: 6
The centre back came on for the injured Cupido. He did well during his time on the pitch.
Nuno Santos: 5
The playmaker looked rusty. He had a couple of wild shots and did not affect the game as hoped.
Thapelo Morena: 7
The speedster came on and assisted the goal with a fine cross. He provided much more width and energy to a tired-looking Downs team.
Iqraam Rayners: 6
The striker was marshalled well. Most of his time on the pitch was when his side had ten men, so there was not the service required.
Divine Lunga: 6
The Zimbabwean only received a few minutes of action.
