Last updated: 28 minutes ago

The article delivers predictions for Champions League Round 3 featuring key fixtures: Stuttgart vs Atletico Madrid, AS Roma vs Slovan Bratislava, FC Porto vs PSV Eindhoven, and Napoli vs Bodo/Glimt. Atletico Madrid, Roma, and Porto are backed for victories based on their momentum and domestic form. However, Napoli’s struggles make Bodo/Glimt an intriguing outsider with recent strong results. The analysis highlights attractive odds for select outcomes, recommending particular bets including an upset for Bodo/Glimt and backing Porto and Atletico for confident picks.

  • Atletico Madrid to edge Stuttgart despite the Germans’ perfect European start.
  • Roma backed to win comfortably against an out-of-form Slovan Bratislava defence.
  • Porto’s perfect domestic record to count against PSV at the Dragao.
  • Bodo/Glimt can frustrate struggling Napoli and avoid defeat in Italy.

Champions League Predictions – Round 3

Stuttgart vs Atletico Madrid

Stuttgart’s perfect Champions League start contrasts with a domestic setback. Sebastian Hoenes’ men beat Viking 3-1 and Slovan Bratislava 3-0 in Europe, with Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic scoring against Slovan. Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Hamburg has exposed their finishing problems.

Atletico have won five straight matches across all competitions, most recently edging Espanyol 1-0 through Alex Baena’s late goal after beating Manchester United 2-0 in Europe. Diego Simeone’s visitors carry the stronger momentum, although Stuttgart’s home support makes this competitive. Atlético at around 2.10 offers an attractive outright payout for the win.

AS Roma vs Slovan Bratislava

Roma bounced back from their chaotic 4-3 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid by beating Genoa 2-0 on the weekend, with Santiago Castro and Emanuele Lulli hitting the net. Donyell Malen scored twice against Madrid, although Paulo Dybala is sidelined by a calf injury.

Slovan Bratislava’s opening European defeats were emphatic: 6-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in September and 3-0 to Stuttgart a week ago. Conceding nine goals in two Champions League matches should give Roma plenty of confidence, but the hosts must avoid another defensive collapse of their own, but nonetheless the quality gap between the sides is substantial.

FC Porto vs PSV Eindhoven

Porto have won all eight of their Primeira Liga matches, including a 3-1 success against Benfica and have scored 20 goals to four this season. They have struggled in Europe, losing their opening Champions League fixtures 2-0 to Manchester City and 3-2 to Real Betis. Gabri Veiga and Samu Aghehowa scored in a good performance against Betis.

PSV are also seeking their first European win after drawing 1-1 with Shakhtar and losing 1-0 to Leipzig. Their last match saw them hit with a third defeat in four matches as they lost 2-1 at ADO Den Haag despite Sven Mijnans scoring first. Porto’s formidable home advantage and stronger domestic consistency make them a confident pick to back.

Napoli vs Bodo/Glimt

Napoli desperately need a big performance after losing 1-0 at Venezia and 3-1 to Villarreal to kick-start their Champions League campaign. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have lost five of their last eight matches in all competitions this season.

Bodo/Glimt, by contrast, have won four straight games in all competitions, netting 12 times and conceding just three goals. Fredrik Sjovold scored in their remarkable 1-0 European victory over Borussia Dortmund and the Norwegians followed up with a 2-0 win at HamKam on the weekend. Napoli still possess greater individual quality but the visitors’ momentum is impossible to ignore.

Napoli’s home advantage has them favoured by the bookies who are offering a generous payout of 4.75 on a Bodo/Glimt win and that has my attention.

Verdict

I’m backing Atletico Madrid to exploit Stuttgart’s weekend setback, Roma to overpower Slovan Bratislava and Porto to turn their impressive domestic form into a European win. Napoli’s poor run makes a Bodo/Glimt double-chance bet the intriguing outsider selection.
