Both first legs were close, with Braga and Forest holding slight leads. Europa League Predictions, semi-final, 2nd leg
Freiburg vs Braga
Braga visit Freiburg with a one-goal lead from the 1st leg thanks to a 92nd-minute strike from Dorgeles. It’s not looking good for Freiburg, who lost three on the bounce before drawing their last match at home to Wolfsburg. Braga have just one defeat in their last five and are looking strong to take the tie.
In Freiburg’s favour is a strong home record that has seen them lose just two matches in their last 10 fixtures, picking up six wins. Braga are pretty strong on the road, winning six and losing three of their last 10 matches, scoring 14 goals in their last eight matches on the road.
At home Freiburg have scored 18 goals in their last eight matches, so I can see plenty of goals in this match as both teams throw everything at each other. Freiburg are strong at home so I don’t see them losing, but Braga are in good form and will be confident from the first leg, so it’s stacking up as a score-draw in my book,
Aston Villa vs Notts Forest
Forest are on fire after snatching a 1-0 win in the 1st leg against Villa thanks to a 71st-minute penalty from Chris Wood. On the weekend they then knocked over Chelsea 3-1 away from home to complete a 10-match unbeaten run, including winning their last five matches on the bounce.
Villa had won five in seven before losing their last three matches in a row, with just one goal to show for their efforts. At home they have won four and last four in a disjointed nine-match streak that saw them score 17 goals.
Villa have had a really good season but their inconsistency makes me veer towards Forest, who have won four and drawn two of their last six matches, so they’re in great form. Villa will throw everything at Forest to first get an equaliser and then go for the win, but that’s going to open them up at the back.
With Forest scoring 16 goals in their last six matches on the road this should be a goalfest, and considering Forest’s form I see them pulling off a draw, which is all they need to go through to the final.
Verdict
We look set for two high-scoring draws as Freiburg host Braga and Aston Villa entertain Notts Forest in the 2nd leg of the Europa League semi-final.
