New Zealand vs Bangladesh Women Predictions - Devine to deliver first win of World Cup for New Zealand

Last updated: 2 hours ago

New Zealand is in urgent need of a win to keep their Cricket World Cup playoff hopes alive as they face Bangladesh. Despite New Zealand's recent loss to South Africa, standout performances by players like Sophie Devine provide hope. Bangladesh has shown consistency in bowling but struggles with batting. Sobhana Mostary’s form with the bat and Fahima Khatun’s bowling prowess offer potential threats to New Zealand's plans. Injury concerns loom over Bangladesh’s star pacer Marufa Akter, possibly impacting their gameplay in this crucial match.

New Zealand vs Bangladesh Predictions

New Zealand are desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Bangladesh have impressed in both their opening matches with their bowling, but their batting is short of consistency. I’m backing New Zealand to outscore Bangladesh in this match.

  • New Zealand’s Sophie Devine has scored 23, 34, 54, 112 & 85 in her last 5 innings.
  • New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr has scored 40, 33 & 23 in her last 3 innings.
  • Bangladesh’s Sobhana Mostary has scored 24* & 60 in her last 2 innings.
  • Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akhter has scored 24, 71 & 30 in her last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

New Zealand have won two of their four WODIs against Bangladesh, with the other two both rained off.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand suffered their second defeat in their first two matches of the Cricket World Cup when they lost to South Africa by six wickets.

Sophie Devine (85 off 98) and Brooke Halliday (45 off 37) were the rocks of the New Zealand innings. The tail failed to wag and they were bowled out for 231 off 47.5 overs.

South Africa powered their way to the win with 9.1 overs to spare. Amelia Kerr (2/62) picked up two late wickets, but Lea Tahuhu (1/27, econ 4.50) was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers.

New Zealand have been playing good cricket with a well-balanced side, and they are sure to kick into winning gear against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh came close to starting their World Cup with two wins on the bounce, only to lose their second match by four wickets in a thrilling contest against England.

Bangladesh struggled to break the English bowling strangehold on their innings, with Sobhana Mostary top-scoring with 60 off 108 balls. They were bowled out for 178 with two balls of their innings to spare.

Marufa Akter terrorised the England top-order, taking 2/28 (econ 5.60) in an explosive five overs before she left the field injured. Fahima Khatun (10-2-16-3, econ 1.60) bowled magnificently but couldn’t prevent England claiming a four-wicket win with 3.5 overs to spare.

Bangladesh Team News

Star pace bowler Marufa Akter left the field with an injury after just five overs against England. Her availability for their third match against New Zealand is in doubt.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to win. I am also backing Sophie Devine to top score for New Zealand.

Sobhana Mostary is a good bet to top score for Bangladesh, and Fahima Khatun is my pic for the best bowler of the match.
