Match Analysis

The last match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium saw the Capitals crushed by the Royal Challengers after they were bowled out for 75, leading to a nine-wicket defeat. The previous match three days earlier saw the Capitals lose again, but this time after setting the Punjab Kings a staggering target of 265 for victory.

Against the Punjab Kings the Capitals slammed 13 sixes in their innings, with the visitors responding with 20 sixes as they raced to a six-wicket win with seven balls to spare.

Despite the unexpected collapse against the Royal Challengers, the pitch at the Arun Jaitley should serve up another beautiful batting strip. The relatively short boundaries make it possible for sides who make a good start to rack up a monster total and the side batting first will aim to pass 200 with 3-5 overs in hand if they hope to rein in their opponents.

The pitch should offer nice bounce and good carry through to the keeper, which encourages strokeplay, but as always bowlers getting some late movement while holding a good line can carve through opposition batters. This season the pacemen lead the spinners 31-17 in the wickets stakes.

Evening dew will encourage skippers to invite their opponents to bat first if they win the toss as bowlers will struggle in the last quarter or the match with the heavy dew anticipated on what should be a hot and dry evening with temperatures hitting 38°C.
