Team News

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel both missed out on the win over the Rajasthan Royals due to injury and poor form, but their replacements Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain both pulled great performances out the bag to give the franchise confidence against the Super Kings despite the continued absence of Aussie star Pat Cummins. Both bowlers snapped up 4 wickets as they rolled the Royals for 159.

Possible XI: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Praful Hinge, Eshan Malinga.

Chennai Super Kings: Fans will be waiting with baited breath for news that MS Dhoni is in the starting XI or at least on the Impact bench. He’s back in training and looking strong, but they might not want to rush him back just yet. The Super Kings have however been hit by the loss of Khaleel Ahmed with a quadriceps injury that has ruled him out of the rest of IPL 2026.

Possible XI: Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Jamie Overton, Akeal Hosein, Noor Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh.

Key Stats

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Ishan Kishan hit 6 sixes in his 44-ball 91 against the Royals.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen (224 runs, ave 44.8) is 2nd on the IPL runs list.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Praful Hinge took 4/34 against the Royals on his IPL debut.
  • Chennai Super Kings’ Sanju Samson has scored 115* and 48 in his last 2 knocks.
  • Chennai Super Kings’ Ayush Matre has scored 73, 59 and 38 in his last 4 innings.
  • Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj (10 wickets, S/R 11.2) is joint top of the IPL wickets list.

Match Analysis

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad offers a batting-friendly track that encourages high scoring on its black-soil pitch, with the ball coming onto the bat true and fast. Later in the match it tends to slow down and with a high chance of evening dew it makes chasing the best option.

There should be early movement for the seamers and the spinners will be able to pull some grip out of the track if they put the effort in, but it’s the batters who will want to roll this pitch up and take it home.

The boundary is larger than most IPL venues and the outfield is quick, but scores should be high and there is a good chance of a decent haul of sixes in the match. The side batting first will hope to set their opponents a score from 210 to 220 to put them under pressure.

Betting Markets to Watch

Take Over/Under Wickets

Praful Hinge knocked over 4 of the Royals’ top 5 batters as they were reduced to 9/5 after just 3 overs. Sakib Hussain also picked up 4 wickets, but I’m backing Hinge to strike at least twice with the new ball again.

Score Over/Under Runs

Heinrich Klaasen is in great form with the bat, racking up scores of 31, 52, 62, 39 and 40 in his 5 IPL innings this season.

Take Over/Under Wickets

Anshul Kamboj is the Super Kings’ leading bowler, having returned figures of 2/27, 2/43, 1/52, 3/35 and 2/32 in his 5 IPL matches this season.

Most Match Sixes

Ishan Kishan has hit 146 sixes in 117 IPL innings but Abhishek Sharma is ahead of him on the Six List in the 2026 IPL with 13 sixes to Kishan’s 12. I’m backing Kishan in this match as he comes into the clash on the back of 6 sixes in his 91 against the Royals just 5 days ago at the same venue, while Sharma was out for a 1st-ball duck.
