Head-to-Head

The Freedom had won four matches on the bounce, including their first group match against the Knight Riders this season, before the Knight Riders won their second meeting this season by 18 runs.

Los Angeles Knight Riders Form

The Knight Riders have rallied late to secure a playoff spot, winning their last four matches on the bounce to make it into the final after beating the Unicorns by seven runs in the Qualifier.

Colin Munro (51 off 44) and Andre Russell (62* off 50) added 96 for the second wicket against the Unicorns, but they were battling to score quickly at 130/3 in the 17th over. Rovman Powell blasted his side into a winning position by smoking six sixes in scoring a sensational 50* off just 15 balls to boost the Knight Riders to 187/3 off their 20 overs.

Sunil Narine (2/28) rocked the Unicorns by taking two wickets off the first three balls of the innings. The Unicorns recovered well but Shadley van Schalkwyk (2/43) struck late to help restrict the Unicorns to 180/4 off their 20 overs to secure the place in the final.

Washington Freedom Form

After falling to the Knight Riders by 18 runs on 9 July, the Freedom won four matches in six days to crack their spot in the final.

The Freedom’s top order was on fire again, smashing the Unicorns for 238/6 off their 20 overs. Andries Gous scored big again, hitting 12 boundaries in his 40-ball 73. He was well supported by Mitchell Owen (42 off 19, with five sixes), Steven Smith (43 off 20) and Rachin Ravindra (28 off 14).

The Unicorns hit out boldly but were always behind the curve as they ended on 231/6 off their 20 overs. Ben Dwarshuis (2/44) was again the Freedom’s star with the ball.
