Afghanistan vs Bangladesh ODI Predictions – Sediqullah to swing Afghanistan into the final

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

Afghanistan are considered strong favourites in their cricket match against Bangladesh due to superior batting momentum and a more varied bowling attack. Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran are identified as top batting picks for Afghanistan, while Rashid Khan is expected to shine as the standout bowler. For Bangladesh, Tanzid Hasan and Shoriful Islam are predicted to be key performers. The article provides recommendations on player bets and projected match highlights.

Afghanistan vs Bangladesh Predictions

Afghanistan are backed to beat Bangladesh and reach the tri-series final unbeaten, leaving Zimbabwe and Bangladesh balancing net run rate for the other spot in the final.

Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran are scoring heavily while Rashid Khan leads a varied bowling attack well suited to the slowing Abu Dhabi surface. Bangladesh must win by a significant margin to overturn the net run-rate picture but their batting collapse against Zimbabwe means they aren’t the strongest horse to back in the race.

  • Afghanistan’s Sediqullah Atal scored 102 off 110 balls vs Zimbabwe.
  • Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran scored 90 off 96 balls in his last match.
  • Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan took 4/17 vs Zimbabwe.
  • Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has taken 35 ODI wickets (ave 19.22) vs Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan struck 46 off 38 balls against Zimbabwe.
  • Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto has scored 80-plus twice in 5 knocks.
  • Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed took 3/44 in his last match.

Head-to-Head

Afghanistan and Bangladesh have each won 11 of their 22 ODIs, making this an unusually balanced historical rivalry.

Afghanistan Form

Afghanistan have lost their last five ODIs and made an emphatic start to the tri-series on Monday, scoring 294 before routing Zimbabwe for 136 to win by 158 runs. Atal made 102, Ibrahim Zadran 90 and Rashid Khan took 4/17, with Fazalhaq Farooqi returning 2/15.

Recent individual records favour Afghanistan’s spinners with Rashid Khan claiming 11 wickets in the bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi last year, including a five-wicket haul. Shoriful Islam has dismissed Ibrahim Zadran six times in 55 balls across formats, twice in ODIs.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have lost four of their last five ODIs, but they beat Australia 2-1 in their ODI series in June. In the current series they slumped to a 99-run defeat against Zimbabwe on Saturday despite Taskin Ahmed picking up 3/44 and Shoriful Islam returning figures of 2/47.

Tanzid Hasan top-scored with 46 but Bangladesh collapsed to 172 off 33.4 overs trying to chase 272.

Team News

Afghanistan are expected to retain the XI that defeated Zimbabwe although there is the possibility that they might rotate a fast bowler. Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains a doubt for Bangladesh due to a viral fever which could complicate the balance of their bowling attack.

Afghanistan (possible XI): Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah (c), Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, AM Ghazanfar, Ziaur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Bangladesh (possible XI): Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy (c), Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman.

Verdict

Afghanistan are strong favourites for the win as they have the stronger batting momentum and greater variety in their attack.

Atal and Ibrahim Zadran are the best picks to score well for Afghanistan with Rashid Khan a strong pick to be the standout top-bowler. Tanzid Hasan and Shoriful Islam are my picks to star for Bangladesh.
