I backed South Africa in the first ODI, but they were humiliated in Johannesburg. While the hosts have proven themselves capable of coming from behind, the way they lost the game leaves much to be desired. I’m backing India to claim the series with a game to spare.

After an impressive World Cup campaign, a couple of months ago, much was expected from South Africa in this series at home.

However, things went awry in the first ODI at the Wanderers. On a difficult surface, India bowled well but the Proteas batsmen failed to apply themselves and were bowled out for 116 runs.

Tony de Zorzi top scored with 28 runs, but the total was never big enough. India cruised to an eight-wicket win inside 17 overs.

One suspects there may be quite a few changes to the hosts' side after that horrid batting display in the first ODI.

India cruised to an eight-wicket win over South Africa in the first ODI of the three-match series.

Bowling first, Arshdeep Singh took 5-37 while Avesh Khan took 4-27 as South Africa were bowled out for a paltry 116 runs. Sai Sudharsan (55) and Shreyas Iyer (52) made light work of the chase and won it within 17 overs.

This sets India up for a possible series win with a game to spare.

India hardly had to flex their muscles in the opening game of the series. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are unchanged.
