The Sunrisers missed out on an SA20 three-peat after losing last season’s final to MI Cape Town. They have lost their skipper but made some great buys in the auction and have a strong and well-balanced squad. The Royals finished second on the table after a great season with seven wins from 10, but their squad is looking thin on match-winners this season.

Skipper David Miller is a proven match-winner, but he hasn’t been on top of his game this year, while Sikandar Raza is sure to play a key role with bat and ball.

Kyle Verreynne is a feisty competitor and Dan Lawrence is a quality batter, but neither have set the world alight this year with the bat. Delano Potgieter has a strong season in 2024/25, scoring 172 runs (ave 86.00) at a strike-rate of 168.62, and a lot is expected of him this season. Sri Lanka’s 20-year-old Vishen Halambage is an unproved talent but bats at 160 in T20s.

Their bowling is strong with good variations, from pacemen Ottneil Baartman, Okuhle Cele and Hardus Viljoen, to great spin options in Bjorn Fortuin, Nqabayomzi Peter and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Their bowling is nuclear-powered, with Marco Jansen leading an attack that is now includes Adam Milne, Anrich Nortje, Senuran Muthusamy and Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar as the core, with incredible backup in the shape of Lutho Sipamla, Chris Wood, Beyers Swanepoel, Patrick Kruger and Mitchell Van Buuren.
