Other results have however made this a must-win match for Ireland. A Namibia win will put both sides on the same points and it will come down to net run rate.

Last time out Ireland started well in Abu Dhabi against Sri Lanka. Josh Little took 4-23 as Ireland had Sri Lanka at 8-3 early on. However there was a recovery as they went on to post 171 runs.

Ireland’s chase never got going. Andy Balbirnie scored 41 and Curtis Campher 24 runs but there was never any momentum. No other batsman reached double figures as the Irish were bowled out for 101 runs.

Ireland’s batting is struggling at the moment. It is hard to see them make any big changes with a pretty settled lineup though.

Namibia Form

Namibia got hammered by seven wickets in their World Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. They did however bounce back to win a fantastic match against Netherlands last time out.

Netherlands scored 164 runs batting first, a reasonably good total on that wicket. Namibia made a solid start in the chase but it was David Wiese’s 66 off 40 balls that made the difference. He smashed six 6’s and five 4’s as Namibia secured a six wicket victory.

They may be the lowest ranked side but they have already shown plenty of qualities. Should they upset the odds against Ireland and manage to improve their net run rate, a place in the Super 12’s could await.
