India vs England Predictions

England lead the series 1-0 with four Tests left to play. There is still a long way to go here but that was a superb win last time out. I still fancy India to pull things back considering how dominant they looked in the first two days.

I am backing Ollie Pope to however score for England after his superb innings in the last match. Keep an eye on India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal as well.

  • India have won 15 of their last 20 Test matches at home.
  • India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 80 runs in the 1st innings of the 1st Test.
  • England have lost 7 of their last 10 Test matches in India.
  • England’s Ollie Pope scored 196 runs in his last Test innings.

Head to Head

England shocked everyone by winning the first Test against India. In a stunning performance and a game that went down to the wire, England just had the edge.

India Form

India bowled first in the opening Test, dismissing England for 246 runs in just over 60 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal got India off to a flying start, smashing 80 off 74 balls. KL Rahul scored 86 while Ravindra Jadeja worked his way to 87 in a 436 total.

With England almost 200 runs behind, the odds were heavily stacked in the host’s favour. However, the England scored 420, leaving India requiring a tricky 231 runs batting last on a deteriorating pitch.

Rohit Sharma scored 39 at the top of the order but others who got in also failed to capitalise on their start. In the end, India were all out for 202 runs, sealing 30-run win for England.

India Injuries & Team News

India have no Virat Kohli to call upon but they must win this match. I can see a change or two as India do generally show little patience.

England Form

England will be full of confidence after an incredible effort in the first Test. What makes it even sweeter is that for the first two days, India were completely dominant.

Ben Stokes top scored batting first with 70 runs in a 246 total. India then smashed their way to 436 runs, handing England a deficit of just under 200.

That is when England produced the magic, or rather, Ollie Pope. Ben Duckett scored 47 runs at the top of the order and while there were a few more 30s, there was nothing substantial.

Besides Pope of course as he blasted his way to 196 runs on a pitch that everyone seemed to be struggling wit. Th2 total of 420 at least gave England a decent total to bowl too.

More brilliance ensued as debutant, Tom Hartley took 7-62 in the second innings as India were all out for 202 runs, 29 short of the target.

England Injuries & Team News

Conditions will determine whether England make any changes to their winning formula.

Verdict

I am backing India to level the series at 1-1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 50+ runs in the first innings. For England, I am backing Ollie Pope to top score in the first innings after his heroic innings last time out.
