South Africa were convincing winners in the 1st Test on a fast pitch at Centurion. Newlands is likely to favour India a bit more, but will it be enough? I’m backing the hosts to win the match and in so doing the series.

South Africa lead the series 1-0 after a commanding victory in the first Test.

South Africa were superb in the first Test against India and secured a commanding win. Bowling first, Kagiso Rabada took 5-59 as India were all out for 245 runs.

A blinding 185 runs by Dean Elgar led the South African response as they posted 408 runs. David Bedingham contributed 56 runs on debut while Marco Jansen ended not out on 84 runs.

With a 163-run lead on the first innings, the Proteas looked set for victory. The bowlers ensured there was no Indian revival as Nandre Burder took 4-33 on debut. Rabada took two wickets while Marco Jansen took three as India were all out for 131 runs.

South Africa Injuries & Team News

Captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the Test after suffering a hamstring injury in the Boxing Day Test. Gerald Coetzee will also miss out through injury. The latter was expected to be out however with the Proteas likely to play a spinner in this Test.

India Form

India were well below par in the first Test and will hope for far better this time around. They need to win to at least secure a series draw.

Batting first at Centurion, India were in trouble from the very start. They only reached 245 runs thanks to a superb effort by KL Rahul who scored 101 runs.

The bowlers toiled hard but failed to take regular wickets as the hosts responded with 408 runs. Virat Kohli showed some fight in the second innings, scoring 76 off just 82 balls. However, Shubman Gill (26) was the only other batter to score more than six runs.

The innings defeat will hurt India, but they have little time to recover now.

India Injuries & Team News

The backup bowlers in the first Test were well below where they needed to be. Shami has also been ruled out of this Test with Avesh joining the squad.

Verdict

South Africa v India 2nd Test

South Africa are backed to win the 2nd Test against India. Dean Elgar is good value to top score in the first innings for the hosts after his 185 runs in the opening Test.

Virat Kohli showed some of his class in the last game, he is tipped to top score for India.
