London Spirit vs Birmingham Phoenix The Hundred Predictions - Struggling Spirit to sneak home against Phoenix

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

London Spirit take on Birmingham Phoenix in a dead rubber at The Hundred, with both teams out of the playoff race. History favors Birmingham, but Spirit's Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Jamie Overton, and David Willey have shown strong recent form. Birmingham's Joe Clarke and Usman Tariq also stand out with the bat and ball. With no pressure, expect high-scoring entertainment and dynamic individual performances. Spirit, hungry for a win against their rivals, are narrowly favored to clinch victory.

  • The London Spirit are on a three-match losing streak and sit seventh on the table.
  • Birmingham Phoenix have lost their last five matches on the trot.
  • The Lord’s pitch should offer batters the chance to play their strokes early on while yielding some turn later in the match for the spinners.

London Spirit vs Birmingham Phoenix Predictions

It’s a dead rubber clash between the two bottom sides in the table, with both out of the running for the playoffs. With nothing at stake for either side there could be some big performances with bat and ball.

  • London Spirit’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius has scored 24, 64 & 52 in his last 5 knocks.
  • London Spirit’s David Willey has scores of 83* & 31 in his last 2 innings.
  • London Spirit’s Jamie Overton has figures of 3/30 & 2/23 in 5 matches.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Joe Clarke has scored 35, 62 & 25 in his last 3 matches.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Sean Dickson has scores of 55*, 22, 20* & 34 in 6 innings.
  • Birmingham Phoenix’s Usman Tariq has taken 2/15 & 2/28 in his last 2 matches.

Head-to-Head

London Spirit have lost their last five matches in The Hundred to the Birmingham Phoenix.

London Spirit Form

Sunrisers Leeds are well placed on the table, sitting second with four wins and two defeats from their six matches. Mitchell Marsh has been their standout batter in The Hundred, scoring 324 runs, while Nathan Ellis leads the bowling charts for Sunrisers with eight wickets.

Leeds come into this fixture after a commanding 45-run victory over Birmingham Phoenix. Batting first, they posted 169/7 from their 100 balls, built largely around another strong start from Marsh and Ryan Rickelton.

Marsh made 34 from 23 deliveries, while Rickelton produced the key innings with 65 from 37 balls, striking six fours and three sixes. Sunrisers looked on course for a total beyond 180 at one stage, but regular wickets in the closing stages slowed their progress.

Even so, 169 proved far too much for Birmingham. Mitchell Owen and Will Smeed were both dismissed cheaply, leaving Phoenix under immediate pressure. Joe Clarke made 25 from 22 balls, while Sean Dickson also struggled to give the chase proper momentum. Birmingham never really threatened the target and were eventually restricted to 124/8, giving Sunrisers an emphatic win and valuable momentum.

Birmingham Phoenix Form

Welsh Fire are fourth on the table with four wins and two defeats, but they will need a response after a heavy nine-wicket loss to Manchester Super Giants. Matthew Short has been their leading run-scorer with 195 runs in the tournament, while Sam Cook has been their most productive bowler with seven wickets.

The Fire batted first in their previous match and reached 155/6 from 100 balls. Phil Salt and Short gave them a strong platform, with Salt making 48 from 37 deliveries and Short top-scoring with 71 from 47. However, the rest of the batting line-up failed to build on that start. At one stage the Fire looked capable of pushing towards 170 or more, but they had to settle for a less imposing total.

The Super Giants then made light work of the chase. Tim Seifert struck 62 from 36 balls, Paul Walter added a rapid 37 from 18 and Jos Buttler produced a brilliant unbeaten 51 from only 20 deliveries. Welsh Fire managed just one wicket and were beaten with 31 balls remaining, making a sharper bowling display essential here.

Team news

With nothing to play for both sides are likely to set their sides loose to play with freedom to entertain the crowds. This has the potential to be either a low-scorer or a batting bonanza as both sides throw caution to the wind.
