Turbulent is a strong favourite in Race 2.
Mercantour has strong competition in Race 6.
Wait For Me looks to nose a tough field in Race 8.

Race 2 – Turbulent (7)

Jockey: Calvin Habib

The 4-yr-old bay gelding Turbulent ran just six days ago after taking second place at Fairview on the back of runs of 3-2-4-5. No career wins to speak of but her form was good six days ago after a powerful performance to push Mrs Shackleton hard. Turbulent looked to have struggled with a loose saddle which might have cost him at the end, so he has my confidence for a first win.

There are no other strong performers in the rest of the field, although George Rex ran second in his last run but had three 10-plus finishes in his previous four outings so his consistency is unproven.

Race 4 – Heliotrope (6)

Trainer: Dean Smith

Heliotrope put in a brilliant performance in her last run to come from the back of the pack to claim a third win in four races. The 6-yr-old bay mare last ran 15 days ago and has a great track record of 5 wins and a total of 14 Top 3 finishes in her 29 starts.

Heliotrope is a fantastically consistent runner, with just one finish out of the top six in her 29 starts, that race way back in October 2023 so she looks to have the Midas Touch.

She will have some competition in the form of Makhachev (5.50) who has claimed 2-1-1-3 finishes coming into this race and Wild Fig (4.00) who has slipped home in 4-4-3-5-1 spots in his last five starts, but Heliotrope should be good to take the line.

Race 6 – Mercantour (2)

Trainer: Alan Greeff

The 7-yr-old chestnut gelding Mercantour has had 76 days with his hooves up after a streak of six wins in 10 races since May 2025, so I’m backing him despite massive competition from some strong winners in the shape of Anuschka’s World (4.50) who has run 2-1-1-2 coming into this race.

Guy Gibson (8.00) and Silvonian (7.50) both come into the race on the back of wins while Tripping Thunder looks strong after three wins in his last five runs, but he also pulled a 12th place three races back and came in sixth out of nine in his last race, which accounts for his high odds of 26.00.

Race 8 – Wait For Me (7)

Jockey: R Fourie

Trainer: Alan Greeff

The 4-yr-old bay filly Wait For Me ended a bleak spell of 5-4-5-8-7 finishes with a change of stable and a 90-day break, which brought with it a first race win for her at Fairview on 19 June.

She will have to fight hard for her win against the like of Endeared (8.00) with a 4-1-2 into the race, Alex Miller (6.00) with 2-4-2 finishes and Umami (17.00) who claimed her first win in her last race.

Fleur De Ville also picked up a first win in her last race, although Wait For Me’s biggest challenge should come from Lana View (6.00). The 5-yr-old bay filly comes into the race on the back of 3-1-1-2-3 finishes and have strong legs to push Wait For Me to the line. Should see a thrilling end to a great day of racing at Fairview.
