Head-to-Head

New Zealand have won four and lost one of their last five ODIs against the West Indies.

West Indies Form

After taking a 1-0 lead in the series the West Indies slipped up in the 2nd ODI. They batted first but collapsed for 138 off 36 overs. John Campbell (43 off 41 balls) and Ackeem Auguste (18 off 27) gave them a solid start with a 63-run opening stand, but the innings collapsed once the first wicket fell. Keacy Carty (18) and Amir Jangoo (24 off 41) did their best to keep the scoreboard moving but the West Indies lost their last seven wickets for just 41 runs.

The West Indies were never really in with a hope but they did well to hold New Zealand to 96/5 but they couldn’t stop the visitors from rolling home with plenty of balls in the bank. Khary Pierre (2/33, econ 3.66) was the pick of the West Indies bowlers.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand’s spinners took control in the 2nd ODI, with Mitchell Santner claiming two wickets and Jayden Lennox starring with five wickets for just 19 runs as they reduced the West Indies from 97/3 to 138 all out off 36 overs.

Henry Nicholls and Will Young made a steady start before New Zealand lost two quick wickets. Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham then settled the chase with scores of 28 and 37, while Michael Bracewell added useful support as New Zealand reached the target in the 33rd over with five wickets to spare.

Team news

The West Indies will be aiming for a big responce after a disappointing batting performance saw them bowled out for 138. With three ODIs being played in succession in Guyana, both teams are expected to make use of their extended squads, with possible rookie debuts and some planned player rotation.

West Indies (possible XI): John Campbell, Ackeem Auguste, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (c), Sherfane Rutherford, Amir Jangoo, Gudakesh Motie, Khary Pierre, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Vitel Lawes.

New Zealand (possible XI): Henry Nicholls, Will Young, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Nathan Smith, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Jayden Lennox.

Verdict

New Zealand are tipped to win at odds of 1.49, with Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Daryl Mitchell and Jayden Lennox backed to star with bat and ball.
