Jewel Mule has a battle on her hands in Race 2.
Givethatmanabells is backed to hit form again in Race 5.
I’m backing Overture’s strong legs to see him through to the win in Race 7.
There are eight races at Fairview on Friday starting at 11:15 SAST.

Friday at Fairview will serve up some tight races to test the nerves of the most seasoned punters (Getty Images).

Race 1 – Green Point (1)

Jockey: Marco V'Rensburg

Trainer: Cliffie Miller

Green Point is a 4-yr-old bay gelding who has shown iffy form in the last few runs, finishing 2-4-5-6-3, but he challenged hard for his third place finish in his last run, so I’m backing a strong finish to take the win.

Crimson Clover and J Lordi are both listed at 5.00 in the early odds but they have just one third place finish between the two of them in their last five outings. Good Shine (21.00) and Norse Warrior (51.00) both have third places in their last few runs but their form is not encouraging, although their odds offer a big payout should they hit their straps.

Race 2 – Jewel Mule (5)

Jockey: Andrew Fortune

Trainer: Alan Greeff

Jewel Mule debuted in May of this year and came in third, following that up a month later with a fifth place finish. The 3-yr-old filly chestnut has had a 51-day break but is the lowest-odds runner in the field. She ran strong in her last race but ran out of juice at the end, so I’m banking on her time off the track to have given her the boost she needs to hit a first win.

It looks like a tight race with some strong challengers. Redlight Lane finished second last time out as did Caughtbysurprise. Watch out for Fonte (3-2-4-2) and Touch The Sword (2-3) have both run strong recently and will push Jewel Mule hard.

Race 5 – Givethatmanabells (4)

Jockey: Calvin Habib

Trainer: Dean Smith

Givethatmanabells is a 6-yr-old chestnut gelding with eight Top 3 places in his 25-run career, including two wins. He’s been on a bad run with his last three finishes being 7-6-7 after a 145-day break. He lead in his last run for most of the race before running out of juice to finish seventh. I’m backing his team tactics to pace his run better on Friday to ensure he has the power to close out the race.

Green Planet (3.25) is a strong candidate after runs of 6-3-1-8-1, but the 5-yr-old bay gelding’s inconsistency has me concerned, so I’m keeping the faith with Givethatmanabells.

Race 7 – Overture (5)

Jockey: Wayne Agrella

Trainer: T Laing

Overture started his career with a win in January but has since slipped to 4-6-5 finishes. The 4-yr-old bay gelding is out of Oratorio and Valeta but ran a good race in his last outing, his fifth place coming hot on the heels of the race winner, so I’m backing him to find the winning touch again.

Overture will have to overcome the challenge of Aquarius (6.00) who has finished 3-8-3-4-4. Astronomical Boy (5.00) and Forest Spy (11.00) both won two races back but blew out in their last race. Stokesy (7.00) is many punters’ choice to take this race on the back of finishes of 1-5-7-5-1, but I’m sticking with Overture’s strong finishing legs.
