CAPTAIN FONTANE got up where it matters most when winning the Non-Black Type Marula Sprint last time. The son of Captain Al received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He should have no issues with the step up to 1500m. He has found his best form and from his good draw of three, should notch up his sixth career victory.

VICTORY BELLE followed up her maiden victory with a fair fifth-place finish over 1000m on the polytrack. She lost a length at the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Rafeef takes a drop in class and will strip much fitter. If jumping on terms, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

GOOD COUNCIL is much better than his last start in the Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas. He won a good race in his penultimate start over 1800m on the Standside course. The son of Oratorio will strip a much fitter horse and on best form shown, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

FLYING FIRST CLASS was an easy winner in the Non-Black Type Allez France Stakes last time. The manner in which she quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. She has won three times, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this C&D. She is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Randall Simons who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

LAGUNA VERDE showed signs of needing his comeback run over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He would have come on from the run and will strip a much fitter horse. The son of Gimmethegreenlight gets the blinkers fitted which will keep his mind on the task at hand. He is a horse that is loaded with ability and on best form shown, he should be too good for this field.

MOVER AND SHAKER is the best bet on the programme. He showed good speed over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off his back and he can follow up.
