The B & I Lions Tour of South Africa has been confirmed despite fears around the COVID-19 pandemic. They arrive on the shores of South Africa towards the end of June before playing their first warm-up match on 3 July 2021.
There will be a total of four warm-up games before the 1st Test on 24 July. Unlike previous tours, this one will have no midweek fixtures between the test matches. That is mainly due to the pandemic so the tour has been shortened somewhat.
The B & I Lions are unbeaten on their last two tours (Australia and New Zealand). Both tours were under the watch of Warren Gatland who will have his third successive tour as head coach this time around.
Gatland was part of the coaching staff in 2009 when they last toured South Africa and lost the series 2-1. Since then they have beaten Australia 2-1 (2013) and drew 1-1 with New Zealand (2017).
