In nine of the last 12 matches between England and South Africa the winning team has won by less than 12 points. Another very close encounter is expected with South Africa to just edge it given their superior forward pack.

Head to Head
South Africa have won five of their last eight matches against England. They last met in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final where the Springboks powered to a 32-12 win.
England did win their last encounter at Twickenham in 2018 when a very tight match ended 12-11 to the hosts.
England Form
England’s form has picked up since their shocking Six Nations campaign where they finished fifth. The form of the side is starting to resemble that of the side that reached the World Cup final two years ago.
The English began their Autumn internationals with a resounding 69-3 home win over Tonga but the bigger tests were always going to follow. Last week, in what was a very scrappy match, England beat Australia 32-15 at Twickenham.
The match was very stop-start but a late try added some gloss to what was a dominant home win. This will be a sort of revenge clash for England after South Africa beat them in the World Cup final.
England Team News
Marcus Smith remains at flyhalf while Manu Tuilagi returns to inside centre. Owen Farrell is out injured and isn’t expected back for a few months.
Courtney Lawes takes over the captaincy from Farrell. Jamie Blamire also comes in at hooker for the injured Jamie George. Eddie Jones has opted for the 6/2 bench split which has been made famous by their opponents.
Jones is missing a number of front-row options so he will hope the youngsters can hold off the world class South Africa scrum.
South Africa Form
South Africa come into this match under a bit of a cloud. Earlier this week their Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus was found guilty by World Rugby for breaching the code of ethics in his now infamous video during the B+I Lions tour.
Unfortunately for England, that is only likely to galvanise the side on Saturday, despite coaching staff saying it will have no effect at all. Regardless, the Springboks arrive at Twickenham as not only the world champions but also as the world No.1 side after regaining that spot from New Zealand last week.
South Africa opened their European tour with a narrow win against Wales before beating Scotland 30-15 last Saturday. This is arguably the biggest game of the rugby season for both sides so it should be an intriguing encounter.
South Africa Team News
Cobus Reinach and Handre Pollard will start as the halfback pairing for the first time on tour. There is another rotational pick with Lood de Jager getting the nod ahead of Franco Mostert in the second-row.
