Blues vs Chiefs Predictions
With this match being a dead rubber, team selection will be interesting. The bookmakers have assumed the Chiefs will give some players the day off, so there is great value on them to win the match. It is a risk, but a Chiefs victory may be worth a small layout in case they rest fewer players than is expected. Remember, momentum is key in rugby, so the Chiefs may not want to lose that by resting too many star names.
- Chiefs have won their last 5 matches.
- Chiefs beat the Blues 15-12 in their match earlier this season.
- Blues have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.
Head to Head
The Blues have won two of their last three matches against the Chiefs.
It was however the Chiefs who won 15-12 earlier this season.
Blues Form
The Blues form has somewhat fallen off a cliff over recent weeks. They started Super Rugby Aotearoa in fine form and were expected to be the Crusaders biggest challengers.
In round five they suffered a crucial 15-12 defeat to the Chiefs which gave the Waikato side momentum going into the second half of the campaign. The Blues did bounce back to win 27-17 at home to the Hurricanes but then faltered 35-29 at the Highlanders.
They needed at least one point last weekend against the Crusaders to keep them in the hunt for the final. Unfortunately they were comprehensively outplayed and lost 29-6 in Chrischurch.
Blues Injuries & Team News
The final is now out of reach so there is only pride to play for. The Chiefs could rest players for the final, something the Blues may do as well. Team selection will take place on Thursday.
Chiefs Form
The Chiefs are in flying form with five wins from their last five matches. This comes after they lost their opening two matches of the tournament. As we enter the final round, the Chiefs have already confirmed their spot in the final against the Crusaders.
It has not been plain sailing for the Chiefs despite their good form. Fortune has certainly favoured them with three narrow wins in a row. After a 26-23 victory over the Highlanders the Chiefs snuck over the line with a 26-25 victory against the Crusaders.
Last week it was left up to Damian McKenzie to once again slot a last minute penalty to win. After trailing for much of the match at home to the Hurricanes, McKenzie slotted a 50 meter penalty after the hooter to win it 26-24 for the Chiefs.
Chiefs Injuries & Team News
The Chiefs have already qualified for the final so could opt to rest a number of players this weekend. It is not known yet if they will or how many they will rest.

Verdict
The Chiefs are on a fine run, winning their last five outings. They may rest a few players with a spot in the final secure. For now, I'm backing a Chiefs win in Auckland.
