The Super Rugby playoffs start this weekend with the Hurricanes hosting the Brumbies in the first match on Friday. The Crusaders host the Blues, and the Chiefs are at home to the Reds on Saturday.

After another exciting season of attacking rugby, we reach the playoffs yet again. The Hurricanes, who topped the table, will face the Brumbies at home to secure their place in the final. Remember, should the Canes lose, they will not automatically be out of the semi-finals - much like the Chiefs last year.

Hurricanes vs Brumbies

The Hurricanes topped the Super Rugby table with 11 wins in 14 matches and ended four points clear of second place. They have been the dominant force throughout the 2026 campaign, particularly at home. The Brumbies, who finished sixth, have been very inconsistent this year, which is quite unusual for them.

However, the Australian outfit has produced enough performances this season to keep the Hurricanes honest and if the visitors forward pack gains any sort of dominance, this could be very tight.

The bookies have Hurricanes as clear favourites with the handicap on 10bet sitting at 18.5. A Hurricanes win is priced at 1.07 with the Brumbies coming in at 7.50 for an upset win. The total match points may be one market to look at with it set at under/over 56.5.

The odds look fair given the Hurricanes home dominance this season, but this is a playoff and the Brumbies will throw everything at it. I have a sneaky suspicion that this will be closer than the handicap suggests.

Crusaders vs Blues

The Crusaders made a slow start to the season as defending champions, but a strong finish saw them rush into third place. They ended the season just three points ahead of the Blues and thus host this playoff clash.

The handicap for this match is set at 8.5 points with the Crusaders favourites. The outright result sees the Crusaders priced at 1.36 and Blues at 3.00. Given how poor the Blues have generally been on the road, that seems fair, but again, this is a playoff and the Crusaders, albeit earlier in the season, have shown that they cannot be completely trusted.

This is another tight call, but I am giving it to the Crusaders on the handicap...just.

Chiefs vs Reds

The Chiefs were favourites to win Super Rugby at the start of the season, and it certainly looks like it is between them and the Hurricanes now...barring an upset. The Hamilton-based outfit finished second on the table with 11 wins and three losses in 14 matches - the same record as the Hurricanes.

The Reds surprised many this season, finishing fifth with eight wins and some of those were outstanding. They also lost games they probably should have won but traveling to Hamilton is not easy.

The handicap for this one is set at 14.5 points and while the Reds are certainly capable, I do think this will be the biggest win of the three playoff games. Chiefs to crush the handicap.

Upsets are certainly possible in all three games, and I believe at least one will be closer than the bookies expect. I am backing the Brumbies to get within their handicap margin and the Crusaders and Chiefs to cover theirs.
