The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11 June 2026 with Mexico hosting South Africa. This is a repeat match of the opening 2010 World Cup, hosted by South Africa.
On Wednesday, 27 May 2026, Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, announced the squad that will carry of the hopes of South Africa at the World Cup in June and July. The team have been excellent over the last 18-24 months despite a disappoint AFCON campaign earlier this year.
While Broos has a strong international base of players, the majority come from the local Betway Premiership.

South Africa History at FIFA World Cup's
This will be South Africa's fourth FIFA World Cup appearance and their first since hosting the tournament back in 2010. They also qualified for 1998 and 2002 where, despite some good performances, they never progressed beyond the group.
In their four appearances at the FIFA World Cup, South Africa have only ever won two matches. On in 2002 and one in 2010.
