Senegal vs Sudan Predictions - Senegal to push past Sudan into quarters

Senegal is poised for victory against Sudan in the ongoing AFCON tournament, having conceded just one goal in their last three games and boasting seven wins in their previous nine matches. With a solid record against Sudan and key players like Sadio Mane leading the charge, Senegal is expected to advance with a comfortable win. Sudan’s struggles in recent matches, including scoring challenges, contrast sharply with Senegal’s offensive efficiency. While Sudan remains unchanged from their surprising progress to the round of 16, Senegal's strategy and player depth should secure their advancement.

Senegal havew looked very strong at AFCON this year, conceding just one goal in three games. Sudan offer little attacking threat, so I can see Senegal going on to win this with comfort.

  • Senegal have won 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Senegal have won to nil in 5 of their last 7 matches.
  • Senegal have won by 3+ goals in 5 of their last 7 matches.
  • Sudan have scored 1 goal in 7 matches against Senegal.
  • Sudan have lost by 2+ goals in 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Sudan have lost to nil in 2 of their last 3 matches.

Head to Head

Senegal hold a 4-0 lead in seven games against Sudan. There have been three draws.

Senegal Form

Senegal cruised through the World Cup qualifiers, going unbeaten in 10 matches. They scored 22 goals and conceded only three to highlight their defensive expertise.

The Lions of Teranga brought that form to AFCON, Nicolas Jackson scoring two goals in a 3-0 victory over Botswana. They fell behind against DR Congo in Tangier but turned it around, Sadio Mane equalising in a 1-1 draw.

Pape Thiaw’s side ended the group stage with a 3-0 win over Benin. They were efficient in front of goal with Abdoulaye Seck, Habib Diallo and Cherif Ndiaye on target, playing the final 20 minutes without Kalidou Koulibaly who received a straight red card.

Senegal Team News

Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended here with Abdoulaye Seck to start in central defence. Expect Ismail Jakobs, Pape Gueye, Ismaila Sarr and Nicolas Jackson to return to the starting side.

Ismaila Sarr has been cleared for light training following an ankle injury and might have to settle for a spot on the bench.

Pape Thiaw commented Koulibaly’s suspension, saying "Losing Kalidou Koulibaly is a blow to our leadership, but Abdoulaye Seck has played these high-stakes matches before. We trust the depth."

Sudan Form

Sudan’s scoring problems were exposed in the World Cup qualifiers. Finishing well behind Senegal and DR Congo in Group B. They found the net only eight times in 10 games.

The Falcons of Jediane had 60% possession and 12-11 shots in their opening match at AFCON, a 1-0 loss to DR Congo. A number of players returned from suspension against Botswana, Steve Mounie assisting Yohan Roche in a 1-0 victory.

James Kwesi Appiah’s side ended the group stage with a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso. Al Gozoli Nooh missed a penalty that would have made it 1-1, Sudan staying alive as one of four third-placed teams.

Sudan News

Sudan are likely to remain unchanged after progressing against the odds to the round of 16.

Verdict

Senegal have a dominant record against Sudan and are deserved favourites at AFCON. I am expecting the Lions of Teranga to win to nil and ease into the quarter-finals.
