A 1-0 loss to Senegal put them in a poor position but they bounced back to beat Malawi 2-0 with Vitinho and Francisco Simbine scoring goals in the second half. They qualified for the semis after beating Namibia 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Melque Alexandre.

Key defender Francisco Simbine missed the semi final and his absence was felt. Striker Melque Alexandre was taken off with a knock in the semi and is a doubt.
