Eswatini vs Mozambique Predictions
Eswatini have been performing well and only struggled in the COSAFA Cup when down to ten men on two occasions. Mozambique have very little attacking threat and have lost six of their last nine matches. I am tipping a win for Eswatini.
- Eswatini have won 2 of their last 5 matches (COSAFA Cup).
- Eswatini have scored in 6 of their last 7 matches (all competitions).
- Mozambique have lost 6 of their last 9 matches (all competitions).
- Mozambique have failed to score in 6 of their last 8 matches (all competitions).
Head to Head
These sides have met on one previous occasion as Mozambique won 1-0 in a friendly in 2009.
Eswatini Form
Eswatini have had a good COSAFA Cup campaign having between 23 matches with a win coming into the tournament. They began with a 3-1 win against Lesotho before losing 1-0 to hosts South Africa.
After a Sandile Gamedze goal took them to a crucial victory against Zambia, they avoided defeat in a 1-1 draw with Botswana to make the semi final.
Their last match did not go to plan as an early 2-0 lead against Senegal turned into a 2-2 draw and loss on penalties. Sifiso Matse and Sabelo Ndzinisa scored the goals but a 67th minute red card for Fanelo Mamba proved costly.
Eswatini Injuries & Team News
Goalkeepers: Ncamiso Dlamini, Sandanezwe Mathabela, Khanyakwezwe Shabalala
Defenders: Sanele Chauke, Sikhumbuzo Magagula, Siboniso Mamba, Lindo Mkhonta, Sihlangu Mkhwanazi, Mthunzi Motsa, Thabo Mngometulu, Mlamuli Msibi
Midfielders: Felix Badenhorst, Justice Figareido, Sabelo Gamedze, Mzwandile Mabelesa, Sifiso Matse, Siboniso Ngwenya, Wandile Shabangu, Njabulo Tfwala
Strikers: Bonginkhosi Dlamini, Sidumo Dlamini, Phiwayinkhosi Dlamini, Sandile Gamedze, Mthokozisi Gwebu, Fanelo Mamba, Khethokuhle Mkhontfo, Sabelo Ndzinisa, Nhlanhla Ngwenya
Eswatini coach Dominic Kunene is expected to rotate his side to give some squad players a chance.
Midfielder Fanelo Mamba will serve a suspension for his red card in the semi final. Forward Sandile Gamedze could be handed a start in attack.
Mozambique Form
Mozambique did well to make the COSAFA Cup semi finals having come into the tournament on a five match winless run. They began with a 0-0 stalemate against Zimbabwe are spurning several chances.
A 1-0 loss to Senegal put them in a poor position but they bounced back to beat Malawi 2-0 with Vitinho and Francisco Simbine scoring goals in the second half. They qualified for the semis after beating Namibia 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Melque Alexandre.
Mozambique Injuries & Team News
Goalkeepers: Ernan Siluane, Victor Guambe
Defenders: Cigano, Francisco Simbine, Danilo, Martinho, Pelembe, Macaime
Midfielders: Shaquille, Abel Nhantumbo, Candinho, Jesus, Salas, Nilton, Mapangane
Attackers: Dilson, Vitinho, Mare, Estevao Novela, Melque Alexandre, Macaime
Coach Horacio Goncalves is expected to rotate his side with just 48 hours between matches.
Key defender Francisco Simbine missed the semi final and his absence was felt. Striker Melque Alexandre was taken off with a knock in the semi and is a doubt.
Verdict
I am tipping Eswatini to beat a Mozambique side that tend to struggle in front of goal.
