Both Barnet and Newport have struggled defensively, suggesting plenty of goals.
Barnet recently experienced high-scoring games, and Newport's defense was last season's weakest in League Two.
Betting predictions favor over 2.5 goals and BTTS as top picks for this EFL Cup match.

Barnet vs Newport Tips

Neither of these sides have been convincing at the back. A result is tough to call but I do expect plenty of goals.

Barnet have a 5-2 advantage against Newport in 10 meetings with three draws.

Barnet Form

Barnet were promoted to League Two last season after winning the National League title. The London-based side scored 97 goals and won 102 points in 2024/25.

The Bees started pre-season with a 3-0 win over Hitchin and a 2-2 draw against Hemel Hempstead. Barnet then lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace U21 before beating Leyton Orient 2-0.

Dean Brennan’s team completed their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against Wycombe. Barnet conceded after seven minutes and Ryan Galvin scored a late equaliser.

Barnet Team News

Barnet have no injuries or suspensions.

Attacker Joe Hugill is in line to make his first competitive start for Barnet.

Newport Form

David Hughes’ Newport finished 22nd in League Two last season and avoided relegation to the National League. The Exiles had the league’s worst defence, conceding 76 goals.

The Welsh outfit began pre-season with a three-match unbeaten run, drawing one, winning two and scoring three goals. That run ended with a 3-1 defeat to National League South side Torquay.

Newport lost again on Tuesday and fell to a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City. Hughes’ side had early chances before facing late pressure and conceding in the 90th minute.

Newport Team News

Midfielder Josh Martin is ruled out due to injury.

Attacker Gerard Garner, midfielder Matt Smith and defender Habeeb Ogunneye are likely to make their full Newport debuts.

Verdict

Barnet v Newport County

Barnet concede a lot of goals and often score at home. Newport couldn’t keep the goals out late in pre-season and over 2.5 goals and BTTS are the best picks in the EFL Cup.
