The Championship action on September 8, 2026, promises exciting matchups. Sheffield United are predicted to extend their fantastic away form against Blackburn, while Southampton aim to keep their strong home record alive versus Swansea. Wrexham are tipped for a win to nil over struggling Burnley, and Bolton face an uphill battle against an impressive West Ham, with both teams expected to score. Sheffield United, Wrexham, and West Ham are the main picks, with Southampton also solid at home. These predictions offer guidance for game outcomes and betting strategies.

English Championship Predictions - 8 September 2026, Matchday 6


Blackburn vs Sheffield Utd


After beating Middlesbrough 2-1 on the 22nd of August Blackburn have had a tough time, losing three matches and drawing their other matches. They’ve also scored just three goals in their last four matches but have conceded just seven in five, so although they’ve been losing they’ve made their opponent work for their points. 

Sheffield were on a good run of five wins and four draws from pre-season through to the Championship and League Cup, winning both of their matches in the Cup. They lost 3-1 at home to Norwich on the weekend but their form has been good so I’m back them to take the win. They haven’t lost on the road in 11 matches, while Blackburn have just two home wins in 10 matches, including three defeats in their last five. 

Southampton vs Swansea


This looks on paper like a good match-up, with Swansea travelling well (W-W-D-L-W-W) and being undefeated in five matches. Southampton are a quality side though and have lost just twice in 10 matches, including six wins.

Southampton have lost just once at home since mid-January, which was in the League Cup to West Ham. Nine home wins in 12 matches suggests they aren’t going down easily.

Wrexham vs Burnley


Burnley are having a shocker, losing four of their last five matches and drawing their other match 1-1 against Middlesbrough. They’ve scored just four times in five matches, conceding 10 times. 

Wrexham have struggled to grind out wins, drawing three times and winning one of their last five matches, but with two clean sheets in their last two matches I’m backing them for a win to nil.

Bolton vs West Ham


Bolton are one place above the drop zone after losing three of their five matches in the Championship this season. They lost their last three matches and have failed to score in three of their last four matches, so it could be a long season for Bolton fans.

West Ham are looking solid in eighth place within one win of top spot. After beating Southampton 4-1 away in the League Cup they drew 1-1 with Watford and followed that up with a 4-2 win over Wolves and a 3-0 victory over Derby. 

They haven’t lost on their travels in seven matches so I’m backing them for a comfortable win, although Bolton have been scoring at home so the sensible bet would be both sides to score.

Verdict

I’m backing Sheffield United to continue with their great away form, while Southampton to maintain their superb home record. Wrexham to win to nil against Burnley, while Bolton and West Ham should both hit the back of the net.
