Nigeria vs Gabon Predictions - Nigeria to edge World Cup qualifier

As Nigeria faces Gabon in the World Cup qualifier, expectations are high. Though Nigeria enters as the favorites, Gabon is in outstanding form, having scored 22 goals in 10 matches. Both teams show strong attacking prowess, suggesting a potentially high-scoring encounter. Nigeria's Victor Osimhen and Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be key figures in the game. The recommendation is to back 'Both Teams to Score (BTTS)' as a bet while keeping an eye on individual goal-scoring feats.

Nigeria vs Gabon Predictions

Nigeria are favourites but Gabon have been in superb from through this qualifying campaign. Both teams score goals, so my best bet is BTTS Yes, but keep an eye on the goal scoring form of Victor Osimhen and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Head to Head

Since 2004, these two sides have met just twice. Nigeria won one while the other ended in a draw.

Nigeria Form

Nigeria just snuck into the World Cup playoff semi-finals with a victory on the final day of the group stage. It isn’t ideal for them to avoid automatic qualification, but they are favourites to advance here.

After a poor start to the qualifying campaign, the Super Eagles went unbeaten in their final four group matches, winning three and drawing one. They defeated Rwanda in early September 1-0 at home before an impressive 1-1 draw in South Africa.

That was followed by a 2-1 victory over Lesotho away from home. In their final game, a must-win at home against Benin, Nigeria were superb, securing a 4-0 victory.

Victor Osimhen was in top form with a hattrick, scoring in the 3rd, 37th and 51st minute. Frank Onyekea added a fourth in injury time.

Nigeria Squad

Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali, Amas Obasogie, Maduka Okoye
Defenders: Chidozie Awaziem, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Benjamin Fredericks, Bruno Onyemaechi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Zaidu Sanusi, William Troost-Ekong
Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf
Forwards: Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, Samuel Chukwueze, Chidera Ejuke, Ademola Lookman, Olakunle Olusegun, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon.

Gabon Form

Gabon were superb in Group F of the Africa FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They finished just a point behind Ivory Coast, winning eight of their 10 matches with one draw and one defeat.

In their final four matches of the group stage, Gabon thrashed Seychelles 4-0 away from home before an impressive 0-0 draw at home to Ivory Coast. They needed that victory to get top spot though.

A high-scoring thriller followed in Gambia where Gabon came out 4-3 victors. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored all four goals.

On the final day, Gabon secured a 2-0 home win over Burundi but had to wait for late goals from Bryan Meyo Ngoua and Mario Lemina to secure the three points.

Gabon Squad

Goalkeepers: François Junior Bekale, Loyce Mbaba (Stella d'Adjamé, Cote d’Ivoire), Lukas Mounguenou, Demba Anse Ngoubi
Defenders: Aaron Appindangoye, Jonathan do Marcolino, Jacques Ekomie, Bruno Ecuele Manga, Yannis Mbemba, Johan Obiang, Mike Kila Onfia, Anthony Oyono, Jérémy Oyono
Midfielders: Oumar Samake Nze Bagnama, Eric Bocoum, Guelor Kanga, Mario Lemina, Didier Ndong, André Biyogho Poko
Forwards: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Teddy Averlant, Denis Bouanga, Alan do Marcolino, Randy Essang Matouti, Noha Lemina, Bryan Meyo

Verdict

I am backing Nigeria to win with BTTS. It is also worth backing Victor Osimhen and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score.
